She's doing well... interesting watching the new traps develop. Had to catch flies for her though, she isn't alluring enough apparently. She only needs about 1 a month.
The shock could be the other little chick dying - buzzard was it?
That was sad - the poor mother didn't know what to do.
Yes, it was the buzzard chick I was referring too - so sad.
Great news about the great tits though. Things have calmed down with the jackdaws too, thank goodness.
That was amazing - live fledging.
Indeed. Hope the jackdaw intruders continue to lay off the chicks

It happens a fair bit on Springwatch Fluffy
Jackdaws are back to their tricks. Just as well the chicks are able to hold their own now.
Aye hopefully they'll make it.
That weeny little firecrest - less weight than a 20p and it flies from Africa *respect*
Amazing isn't it?
I really wish they wouldn't give us so many close ups of bugs. I don't cope well with that.
Aye the dragonfly larvae with the shooting out mouth was like Alien Those sextant beetles were a bit grim too. I'd rather not know.
Mind you, you have a Venus Fly trap! Hows it surviving on its one fly a month?
It's had two this month! The greedy guts!
I enjoy seeing the progress of new traps.

Oh, I know. Doesn't make it any the less sad though.
Watching the Red Kites now.
Two flies, theyre doing well do the traps open and shut very often?
I was watching Iolo the Red Kites too
Those water rail chicks are so cute. They remind me of Rod Hull's Emu for some reason
Flies seem to be wary of her. She's closed traps twice, but manually.... we've caught the flies for her.
Red Kites were brilliant. I could listen to Iolo talk forever.
They reminded me of Kevin's chicks from Up. The cuteness.
Love how you call the Venus Flytrap "her"
Iolo is great. He's done a lot of countryside programmes for BBC2 Wales and S4C. On S4C he used to wear the shortest denim shorts ever Couldn't understand a word it but I watched it anyway.
Oh... I anthropomorphise everything.
Ooh... We have S4C... I must keep an eye out for repeats, these shorts sound... interesting... *ahem*
Jezza was on QI tonight.. H for Health and Safety. He loves that
I'll have to Iplayer that tomorrow. Angry Jezza is fun.
Anyone been keeping an eye on the web-cams?
The Willow warbler chicks are gorgeous!
The jackdaw chicks look very big -until one of the parents pops in.
One chick was flapping its wings, while the other was still looking to be fed. So they might fledge at different times.
No I must check them Fluffy
Glad the Jackdaw chicks are doing ok!
The water rails have fledged. There's an egg in the nest. Not sure if it's a new one or one left unhatched from the original clutch.

Saw the clip. They were just up and off! Wonder will we see any more of them?[ think its an old egg ]
The Jackdaw chicks look too big to be messed with so hopefully they'll be ok.
I heard the water rails had fledged.
Need to check see how grey the jackdaw heads are, I haven't been able to get on the cameras this weekend.
ETA: Number 5
Oooh my!... *fans self*
Water Rail mammy upped and left and they followed her... they grow up fast those chicks.

From memory....I don't think they were very grey at all.
ah ok. I guess we'll find out if they go grey before or after they fledge this week.
Thought you'd like that one Rosie.
Can't see any grey on the Jackdaw chicks either - but they are moving about a lot more.
A bloke I went to primary school with posted a video the other day. They had went fishing, cast the line... 2 minutes later a gannet dove in and got caught on the hook. It got away, but I hope it's ok.
I'm watching Springwatch Extra on the red button.
The bees are well established in a nesting box.
The willow warbler chivks are still looking gorgeous, they're quite a bit bigger than a few days ago and are expected to fledge soon.
The Springwatch Team think the Blackbirds are close to fledging, but they don't look that ready to me.
Hopefully gannets can live with lots of junk inside them like other waterbirds?
Awww just had a look at the sleepy willow warbler chicks settling down for the night. b.t.w. a belated welcome to the thread Fluffy
Hopefully, diving on anything shiny in the water can't be healthy either way.
Yes, welcome to our thread.
Thanks for the welcome.
Anyone know what's with the jackdaws? There appear to be three young birds in the nesting box now. One has a definite grey head. Do you think the single chick from the other box has managed to come across to visit? The one with the grey head still wanted to be fed when the adult appeared.
Missed a bit while I was typing, but there was an awful lot of noise and now I can only see two birds in the nesting-box - the grey headed one seems to have gone.
The pictures seem to jump a bit, but now there are three again. One with a very grey head, one with a bit of grey and the other is so close to the camera that you can't see much of it at all.
Fluffy I'm confused Have the main Jackdaws fledged ? Missed the start of Springwatch then all they seemed to show was the other Jackdaw nest.
Can't see any jackdaws on the webcams.
There are gulls on the flat roof opposite my window. Must try to identify them ! Unfortunately no nests that can be seen.
The intruders don't attack the chicks now, just hang around and peck the nesting material. They've practically moved in - not subtle are they?
Or it could be one of the parents staying to guard the chicks? However the chicks are sitting with their back to the adult which makes me think its an intruder squatting. Also the parents tend to be off looking for food and don't sit in the nest so much?
The solo jackdaw was older, maybe they have went over for a visit.
We have herring gulls on our roof... they use my Mitxy as a toilet. Not amused.
Oh no poor Mixty
One redstart chick left...

I'm a bit confused too Rog. From what I understood there were two Jackdaw nests. One with two chicks (the one we see mostly) that kept getting attacked and one with only one chick, that didn't seem to get bothered much until a couple of days ago when most of the nesting material was stolen. Then I turned on yesterday to see three in the box that had the original two chicks.
