Hopefully the evil eye isn't real - ie actually works
How did you hear about it?
Hopefully the evil eye isn't real - ie actually works
How did you hear about it?
Well, first in the Golden Girls... Sophia Petrillo was apt to threaten people with it... but she used the hand sign to ward it off when doing so... *shrugs*
I have read stuff... lots of stuff...
Plus, I have a copy of the Necromonicon (which is kiddie-on), so you know... interesting reading materials.
Oooh how interesting. I've heard older people be afraid of it it. It would happen say, if someone was jealous of you, they'd put the evil eye on you. So you'd keep away from them.Could be an Irish /N.Irish thing, dunno?
It seems to be spread out... lots of places.
Tell me what you know about other ones...
Other ones?
Well, I know abra kedabra is a healing spell.
If you mean places seems to be a common peasant thing.
Can never think of that without thinking of Abakebabra - a Dublin fast food chain. You only ate there when very very drunk.
I had a job interview with them once. They didn't last long in Glasgow. Hell, I don't even like kebabs.
Did you watch Eurovision? My favourite didn't make it through the semis.
Aww which one was it?
Yep I was on the thread up there ^^^^
I liked Finland, Malta and Netherlands. Didn't rate the winner much - how about you?
Albania. They had sparks shooting out the end of their guitar.
I liked Greece. I like Gogol Bodello though, so that makes sense.
The winner was the favourite... kind of forgettable really.
Greece were great
I've heard of Gogol Bordello *nods*
Greece were fun.
*starts a rendition of "start wearing purple"*
Saw an ad for Springwatch - it starts next Monday
I know! As does Horrible Histories season 5... and I'm off work and I will be well by then and...
Excitement round here today, police, fighting junkies and ambulances. Only I was ill and angry at all the noise.
How are things with you?
Sorry you're ill whats wrong Hitch ? Get well soon xx
The hospital are discussing sending Da on to the Marie Curie hospice. Unfortunately nursing at home isn't an option with all the tubes etc. He sounds ok-ish on the phone. Its terribly sad but at least we've all had time to adjust now. We just pray for a peaceful end I suppose.
I got whatever my colleague had last weekend. spent friday and saturday in bed mostly.
Sad to hear that. At least he should be looked after well there. ((((rosie))))
Thanks for the hug Da sounded ok-ish today... in good spirits considering.
Oh no sorry you're ill, is it some kind of flu or bug?
Just a bug... nicely timed for the holidays. Typical!
Oh noes! What crap timing. How are you feeling today?
I am.. much better. Lovely timing for back to work.
How are you?
Doing ok thanks, Just waiting for more news.
Was Springwatch good? I was on the phone for most of it... they looked soaked.
Oops! I was distracted... SpringWatch, rushing to finish the Brick before the Altador Cup starts on Friday, Pre-AC kerfuffle, new plant.
It was good, decent amount of Iolo this year. You've caught it since I guess? Loving the jackdaws, we have a lot of them round here.
Anyhow, new plant... only plant... following in your greenthumbiness. *ahem* Well, technically all i have to do is water occasionally and supply a monthly insect until it hibernates.
How is your compost working out?
Only seen snippets of SpringWatch unfortunately. Been distracted. We're hoping to get our father into the Marie Curie hospice but have been told various reasons why he hasn't been moved. I suspect the NHS admin system is a bit shambolic.
What type of plant did you get?
Hopefully, they'll pull their thumbs out and get something sorted. Not right them messing you about.
I got a venus fly trap... that would've been an important detail... I generally miss those out. *ahem*
Not right at all is exactly how we feel.
Venus Fly Trap - how cool
Missed most of Springwatch - what were the highlights? Saw a bit of the Jackdaw chicks being pecked... oh dear that may not end well.
Oh and our Da IS on the hospice waiting list thankfully. Just the day before the hospital told us categorically he wasn't going as he required too much care
He'd be much better out of the NHS system. Marie Curie are a charity.
Would be nice if they could clear the lines on communication there. Good that he's on the list though.
The jackdaw chicks they are optimistic about since they are big and sturdy... but that enemy jackdaw's been back this evening.
Iolo did a film about gannets... they filmed them from under the water... in slo-mo camera. Looked amazing. The urban otter was good. Hen Harriers was interesting too... and the kestrals.
Sorry to've missed the urban otter... must check iplayer
There's wee contest they had, looking for things in a garden... not saying there was cheating... lol

Hi Erin hope you're well
Will be up to the forum ^^^^ when BB starts... hope its a good one!
If you haven't seen today's Springwatch yet, then brace yourselves for a shock!
Aww Fluffy is it the poor Jackdaw chicks...
Is that "today's" as in Last night's? Or Springwatch in the Afternoon?
The shock could be the other little chick dying - buzzard was it?
That was sad - the poor mother didn't know what to do.
I think the buzzard, yes. I had forgotten about that. Very sudden.
On a cheerier note, the sound of the snoozing Water Rail was sweet.
And that female seabird on the isle of May that duffed up her rival and literally jumped the male! No shame!
Ah yes... the appropriately named "shags", with their high divorce rate. lol
I prefer the soothing snore of a dozing badger.
Is that what they were?... heh heh, perfect.
Yes, dozing badgers... one of life's joys
How is your venus flytrap doing? When you said you'd got a plant I thought it'd be a begonia or something lol.
