i'm here.. i think... hopefully this is it. how have you been?

Yup here I am
Swansea, have I ever told you. ..meh.. tis not that exciting
swansea?
Yes, thats were I live - in the quite posh sounding Maritime Quarter of Swansea. Its a nice Georgian building divided into 50 flats.Well quite nice apart from the nutter next door who was removed [sectioned] and then returned.. I try to feel sympathy for her, but she has a habit of stamping on the floor in the early hours - patience has a limit!
sounds lovely, i have images of stately manors in austen adaptations. shame about the neighbour.
i live in a victorian tennement... i like it, bu posh reference books refer to them as slums (as late as the 1980s... cheers people.)
It is quite a beautiful building [ posher on the outside than it is on the inside lol ], its grade 2 listed apparently.
Mind you, the victorians also built beautiful buildings - I bet your place is more attractive than modern apartments, no?
yes, insides have to be touched up every so often sadly. we lost the frilly bits on the ceilings when we got renovated, ceilings got lowered. that said, still pretty high... i always feel like ducking when i'm in someone's titchy new build.
my tenement hasn't got many frilly bits on the outside either, most do. partick has some pretty ones.
the city centre is amazing though. always go shopping with my head held high... it's all up above the ground floor.
Glasgow is pretty... beautiful and historic and apparently ...its used for American film shoots.... no-one uses Swansea ... your neighbourhood wins
it has it's moments. my particular neighbourhood has the fossil grove, scotstoun stadium (this area will be chock-a-block during the commonwealth games) and an old victorian trainline - turned cyclepath (although, that's mostly on fire these days.)
sadly this area is mainly known for purposely set fires... cyclepath, cars the old garage that used to be round the back of my house (seriously, fire service was out to it nine different days during a summer holiday, one of those days three times.).
How strange... about ten years ago I lived in Bradford [ my then boyfriend was doing optometry there ]. It was really plagued by arson fires... could never figure out why ???
Happy Halloween Hitch
happy halloween to you too!
*runs about shouting 'whooooo!'*
"May your slice of apple cake have the coin in it*
Happy Halloween Hitch ! Will you be wearing wings or horns this year?
I'm off to carve the pumpkin.... oh god its a bit tough... I sliced it open with the knife allright -ish ? but I broke the spoon in it carving it out. Hows yours going ?
apple cake?
probably wings and my neville longbottom wand... pretend to be an eniripsa. *nods*
oh.. i thought they were meant to be easier than turnips?
don't do pumpkins or turnips. will do cards and "spells". *nods*
My Aunty used to bake apple cakes with a coin or a ring in it at Halloween. Guess its just our family does it. Pumpkins are easier, but it was a cheap spoon lol. I couldn't get it to look scary, more smiley.
Hope you'd a good Halloween.
must be a regional thing. like how we say guising and no one else seems to. (keep correcting the kids at work... not very polite of me. ). anyway, apples are traditional in general.
get many guisers? we had 10.
i'd like to try carving a pumpkin... but it seems an awful waste of food since i'm not going to eat any of it.
one poor lassie came into school today giving away her halloween hoard, bacon flavour crisps and gelatine based sweets... she's muslim.
had a good night. even if i did spend most of it watching the decidedly unscary louis theroux and steve backshall. how's about you?
I was quite tired and went to bed a bit early. I've never had "guisers" call here, as its mostly singles and retired people.
I still have some candles etc left over so I've lit them tonight. [ Oh well its still Samhain, the true Celtic celebration] and even better the Mexican Dia de los Muertos falls today.
How did your *spells* go ?
didn't do any... cards were interesting, normally get mostly minor cards (meaning you can change things), but last night was major after major... so much for free will.
i was wondering when dia de los muertos fell.. i knew it wasn't long after halloween, but i'm crap at dates.
Its 1st Nov for children, and today for adults [ i.e. departed souls ].
Do you mean tarot cards Hitch?
ah ok. i should really take note of that. *nods*
yeah, tarot... did i ever tell you i used to moderate irc chat for a couple of spiritualist/psychic websites?
i was better at the "/kick joebloggs90 (for being a prat)" side.
Hey thats impressive
And this would be the time of year for divination, too.
it would indeed. *nods*
i'm not sure why people put me in positions of responsibility. i on a couple of guild councils too. i think i maybe seem least likely to launch a coup.
You come across as an "honest broker" I think.
You're on a couple of Guild Councils? Thats excellent Hitch Wow.
that's game guilds... not important things.
*fears she made that sound too official and big there*
Lol Oh. Still pretty impressive though.
doesn't feel very impressive. lol
Do you celebrate Bonfire night up there Hitch?
we do, i don't.. lol
not keen on fire, and it always scared me more than halloween when i was little.
you doing anything?
Nope. Just settling down to watch Autumnwatch, which I love.
oops! forgot autumnwatch... i'll just iplayer it like everything else.
tv woman in radio times and the letters page of same mag have it in for the presenters, saying they act like childrens tv presenters (*ahem* chris packham and micheala strachan? *cough*reallywildshow*cough*)... and some people (horrible, stupid people) are blaming martin hughes-games for anything that looks like fun. gods forbid educational stuff should be entertaining!
gods help these people if steve backshall shows up... they may explode with indignation! (i remember that being a cooler smiley on c4... )
rant over.
i miss badgercam... the sound of sleeping badgers was rather soothing.
was a bit proud last week, i got 2 of the unsprung skulls right.
Agree totally. They make it fun, whats wrong with that. Well done on getting two right in the quiz.
*Reminisces about The Really Wild Show... and Chris with his Billy Idol hair*
*nods* seriously, do they really want bill odie back?
never really liked chris back then. terry nutkins was cooler... his fingers were stuff of legend! (older kid, all serious: "they say... it was an otter." wee kids: "oooh!")
ROFL . Oh I forgot about that, didn't he live with the Tarka guy, and he got his fingers chomped off
That giant housespiders bit was scary. None of them looked as big as the one I saw when I lived in a flat beside the halfpenny bridge in Dublin years ago. Luckily it was outside, crawling up the wall beside the window. It was the size of my hand [ or thats how I remember it lol ].
no idea if it was tarka... when you're little 'an otter' covers it. *nods*
i managed to get by the spider bit not too bad. only the one in the beer glass really got to me.
the hedgehog lady seemed a little airy-fairy though. didn't like her much.
Indeed she was a bit odd / nervous.
I thought I'd miss Kate Humble but Michaela's doing a great job. She's funny and sometimes drops in the odd racy joke
not really missing kate, and michaela's alright cause i'm used to her from my childhood.
I remember her from The Hitman and Her
really wild show is the earliest for me. there was another wildlife show after that. i can't remember what that was though.
Are you old enough to remember David Bellamy? I sometimes wonder what happened to him.
i am indeed.
he was in an ad for something a year or so back... churchill! he wanted churchill to water his plants when was away. the instructions were complicated.
