Tom Mankiewicz, the film screenwriter, has died from cancer at the age of 68.

His scripts include Diamonds are Forever, Live and Let Die, The Man with the Golden Gun, Superman, Superman 2, and Ladyhawke. On the negative side, he wrote the script for The Cassandra Crossing which I detested so much that I switched off in disgust, and to this day I do not know but assume that everyone was killed in the bridge collapse at the bridge.

Tom's father was Joseph, the film director who made All About Eve, The Ghpst and Mrs Muir, Sleuth (the original) and others. Several relatives are also in the film business, generally also as writers.
