I read the Radio Times magazine preview of this, and I think I'll give it a miss. Apart from the cast link, it's by a different TV channel to "Borgen" and it wasn't very successful in Denmark. They've cancelled the show there, although apparently it's still been lined-up for a US remake.

 

"Those Who Kill" has been likened to "Wire in the Blood", and be warned: it apparently contains a lot of violence towards women. Alison Graham (RT's TV Editor) describes it as "efficient, if unpleasant"...

 

 

Looking forward to it more now, I love 'Wire in the Blood'

I'm glad you enjoyed it! We haven't seen it yet. The Grauniad printed a Venn Diagram of the actors between the three shows. reading the accompanying article I thought maybe they weren't as impressed with the new one. But they are often wrong.

I enjoyed the first episode but I don't think it's got the intensity of The Killing.

 

It's a shame they didn't give it longer to see if gathered more viewers   I think if they'd given it a bit more time, it could have developed into a very good show - it reminded me of Cracker with Robbie Coltrane.

 

The only thing I found irritating was the amount of adverts by ITV3 but it was nice to see familiar faces and I'm quite happy to get my Danish fix Tak

TBF I think that, as they run out of actors an increasing amount of viewers are being drafted in as actors.

 

Or as they might say in Fredericia, "Jeg mener, som de løber ud af aktører en voksende andel af seerne laves i som aktører." I should imagine.

 

 

Do these programmes have subtitles? If so, it puts me off something hellish. I can't read and watch at the same time, but, through watching the English version of Wallander, I know how good the Scandinavian programmes are.

Yes Cologne, they do have subtitles.

I thought it would put me off but to be honest, I found I paid more attention to the action and what was being said.  You learn to skim read the dialogue whilst watching the action - good for concentration skills

Yes, I'm afraid they only made one series of 10 episodes - it was broadcast in Denmark last March. However there will be a film called Fortidens skygge (Shadow of the Past) out next month. I'm assuming it's a TV movie, but you never know...

 

I'm a little puzzled though: the 10 episodes were broadcast as 5 double-episodes, and that's how ITV3 are showing it. However. last night's episode was described in the Radio Times as "1/6". Have they got the rights to the film as well? 

You're not kidding: the original show was broacast as double-episodes, each episode 45 minutes long. That means that in a 2hr screening on ITV3, a quarter of it is adverts!

My parents have been able to follow the subtitles on The Killing and Borgen quite happily. You're right about the concentration, Pengy: they find that they get more involved in the story, because they have to concentrate on every single word.

 

The only problems they have is that they're sometimes too fast (especially with long speeches), and sometimes the contrast isn't too good because the picture "behind" the white text is too bright (never a problem with "The Killing", of course!   ).

 Their solution is to tape the episodes, so that they can pause them if necessary on playback.

We watched half of the first episode tonight. I thought it rather good.

Having now watched three episodes I can now confirm that it is a crock.

A shame really.

yes I loved this series - shame it's finishing and I cried a tear at the ending of Thursday's episode
