A fourth (and expected final) instalment of the Shane Meadows drama – set against a backdrop of rave, Italia ’90 and the resignation of Thatcher – starts next Sunday on Channel 4.

It’s been a long time coming… I hope the wait will have been worthwhile!

I've been a viewer of this series since the film and just got This is England '88 on blu-ray this week.

Some of the other series have been shot in Sheffield and this series has also been shot here too. I noticed the trailer contained scenes on Park Hill flats.

Warp Films the producers have their Headquarters in Sheffield and make some interesting films.

My claim to fame is that I know one of the characters, she only appeared in one series and her name is Charlotte Tyree. She has always worked in a local Café Bar and I have know her for many years. Pictures of her below.

I'm finding the opening episode quite amusing in parts.

Yes... well written by Shane Meadows again.

Not sure I should be laughing but the sex/drug scene over the snooker table is rather amusing for many reasons.

I liked the intro news montage: Poll tax riots, prison riots, Iraq, mad cow disease… and concluding with Thatcher’s resignation and her saying that the country was better off than when she gained office 11 years earlier.

Well, she was never a friend of the truth nor self awareness.

Yes it is.

I saw them interviewed on TV and they said that Shame Meadows gives them a script outline, they can then improvise to a degree.

We are seeing a lot of Park Hill flats this series.

Carefully selected camera angles I suspect given that Urban Splash have renovated nearly two blocks of them, in very bright colours.

Is that where Harvey and Gary have the flat?

Yes it is. When I was at school I had a friend who lived on Park Hill. I spent a fair amount of time on those really large 'paths'. They were more than big enough for a milk float to deliver milk.

Apart from the flats which have been renovated, the rest are boarded up waiting renovation.

The view over the city centre from the top is great.

Below are a few pics.

If you are liking what you have seen then now that the show is finishing I suspect a box-set of the film and series will be released.

I recall years ago (perhaps late 90's) watching a Sky One doc about the roughest pubs in Britain and one was in Sheffield - though i thought the area was called Parkway rather than Park Hill.

The Parkway is a main link road (dual carriageway) which leads out of the city centre to the M1 motorway. Park Hill flats are situated near the end of the Parkway.

I think it may have been a pub situated under Park Hill. It did get very run down at one point. It's funny how these things turn around. They are trying to turn it into an youthful urban place to live and work with work unit for creatives.

The tower block where i grew up (A406, Angel Road, Edmonton) appeared to have transformed into luxury apartments the last time that i passed it!
