It's like a bad episode of Eastenders, which I suppose implies good episodes of Eastenders exist, which they don't. Never mind, forget I said anything

Why, had Peggy Mitchell died in it?

Now you just know that is inviting comment
I'm not watching it because I don't want to know people like them. Why would I be interested in watching a bunch of racists?

It hasn't been like that so far. Just, well, a bit crap.
Oi, Peggy Mitchell isn't a racist!

I know the underbelly of Great Britain is shite I don't need a programe to tell me that; there are racial elements in this countryReference:

There are racist elements in every country. Britain has moved on a long, long way from the themes inspired by the movie this series is taken from. We don't like to be reminded of those dark days any more than you, as a German, would wish to be reminded of yours. Pedestal. Get off it. Thanks.

Was just about to say exactly the same thing. Cologne, serious question. From what I have seen, you seem to dislike Britain and very rarely have anything positive to say about it. What enticed you here in the first place?(And no I don't want an argument, I'm too tired. It's a genuine question and has no antagonistic intention)

I'm beginning to wonder if she's German at all Karma. There isn't a German in the world who would move to another country and dare to even mention the R word.
Yeah, she should be fighting capitalism with me!
I said on here the other day that racism, homophobia, transphobia and all other negative opinions regarding personal statuses will never die out. Global acceptance is a nice vision, and while I do believe there is much more acceptance than there was in the 70's and 80's, there will always be someone who doesn't like something. I also wonder how many people claim to be non-accepting of certain issues due to peer pressure or because that's what their family expect, but deep down don't agree, but would never admit it.
I think there's a hell of a lot of unhappy people on this planet.

More than you or I could ever count. The previous vocal majority is fast becoming the silent majority.Reference:

Only Cologne knows that, we can be anyone we want to be thanks to the anonymity of the internet (except for those with RL facebook accounts with RL friends who also have forum people on it I suppose)
I really will stop with the capitalist stuff soon, I promise! On the forum I mean, I'll still keep waving my placards outside Greggs.

No way am I on a pedestal, I'm German and have taken all the flak that British people like to give for 30 years, but I don't mind, because they are probably right anyway, I don't know, who does?Reference:

Check your history and you'll know. I'm not going to get banned for you cologne. Ain't gonna happen. Nope.
Tasteful.

Why? What could you say that is racially not acceptable. (sp) Germany didn't become a country until 1885 or there abouts. Reference:

Like I said, bait rejected.
Are you expecting cologne to apologise on behalf of the Prussians?
Well I see my genuine intention with asking a question but not wanting an argument went down well
How did we get from discussing the film to Germany?
Still not seen the film. I meant to last night, then got into watching something else I had taped and before I knew it, it was bed time

That's quite an interesting generalisation. What's that all about then?
As it happens I have only just watched the first episode this afternoon.
I was quite looking forward to this having seen the film.
But so far I have been left underwhelmed. So what have we had. Kid screws up his exams, gets a bit bullied and a non wedding with an added heart attack. Not quite what I was expecting.
I think this could be a case of "milking the film". It's a little hard to see where this could go. I can understand the desire to develop the characters and in so doing create a story, but what you want from a first ep is to garner enthusiasm for continued viewing.
I will continue to watch as I have my fingers crossed that it will grow, but viewing a recording may have me watching with half an eye and the other on here !!!

Nope, still not seen it monkey I am well behind in my video watching - damn this place I am going to watch last night's BB HL show and then watch it
It's so hard to fit it all in isn't it. Sadly there'll be plenty of time next week.

Alas, I think your right, they should of left it alone. Still will watch the rest and hope it improves.Reference:

There's that I guess monkey. I expect this place will be quiet
I couldn't see the point of it. Four episodes isn't long enough to get to know the characters, seeing as it's presented in a soap opera style (which I thought was a ridiculous idea anyway) instead of a film/documentary style which would have been more keeping in with the original film.
I don't even intend to watch any more of them, it was awful.

I will watch it on catch up then...I'm glad now then I missed it cos I was gutted I did last night...sometimes when you get high expectations it never matches up thou....
I finally got round to watching the film last night and I thought it was a bit rubbish - don't know what all the fuss was about. I was expecting to be spell bound (for want of a better word), but found myself fast-forwarding some of it.
Very disappointing. Not seen the series yet.

If you didn't like the film I'd give the series a wide birth if I were you LL.Sorry you didn't enjoy it, maybe we hyped it up too much and it didn't live up to your expectations.
