Labour 1st, then a few days later the Tories, now the Lib Dems...I bet they were all running round like headless chickens trying to cover their slimy tracks! Nod

The way I see it is that if a few are getting away with it, and others know about it, they're gonna think to themselves..'If Joes Bloggs can get away with it, why shouldn't I'...not having one ounce of morality or decency between them, they all jump on the band-wagon.....

I really am going to have to think long and hard about who to vote for as I have absolutely NO trust or confidence in any of the Parties! Shake Head

However, lots of people are saying they will not vote, that is wrong, the right to vote is more important now than ever! Nod

I agree and I will definitely vote in the next General Election BUT I will be registering a protest vote in next month's European Elections by voting for either UKIP or The Green Party.

If more people were to do that, it would show the three leading parties that the people of Great Britain are disgusted with them and their fraudulent practices.

That'll be too luxurious for them. A tower block in a sink estate would be better for them. Let them have a taste of the real lives some people are forced to live. Moreover, when they get chucked out of Parliament..they have feather-bedded pensions to look forward to as well Mad

Me too Hyacinth, it has to be made clear to them that WE demand a change, the only way to do that is vote for someone else! Nod I do hope lots of people see how important their vote actually is and do exactly the same! Nod

I had a blazing row with the OH the other day, because he tore up his voting card when it arrived, because he refused to vote for any of them. I told him that attitude stank.
These elections are solely to place some muppet on the Brussels gravy train, the MEP will be largely ineffective anyway. I will vote, but look for an Independent candidate...failing that, I will vote UKIP or some other small party. No way will I be voting for any of the other three.

Thumbs Up I also consider your vote to be an earned right, Women fought hard for the right to vote Nod Not using your vote, especially now, is a complete waste!

I suspect Labour will get in again though, my feeling is, there are that many people (especially where I live) that have never worked and live comfortable enough lives on Benefits that wouldn't want to see a change...infact, maybe if you've never worked (excluding the people who cannot work for Health reasons), you should lose the right to vote altogether....

Is it just me?
Why? If the loony UKIP people are so anti-europe why are they wasting money standing?

Meanwhile.....
A Member of the European Parliament and his assistant have both been charged with false accounting and money laundering after an investigation into claims that they misused thousands of pounds of expenses.

Tom Wise, 60, who was hoping to stand for re-election in June, was elected for the UK Independence Party but now sits as an independent after being expelled from the party.

He and Lindsay Jenkins, his researcher, could face lengthy jail terms if found guilty.

The charges against Mr Wise, an MEP for the East of England, come less than two months before European elections for which an EU-wide survey has forecast a record low turnout. They follow a series of claims about the misuse of the generous expenses on offer in Brussels, including the Conservative Chief Whip Den Dover being required to pay back ÂĢ445,000 in “unaccountable expenditure”.

Nod No names mentioned, but a guy on the radio tried to justify this. Can you imagine zB the great train robbers saying, "Yes! it's a fair cop, but we will pay it back."
(Though to be fair robbing a train probably was not "Within the rules.")

Well, in all fairness, the money from the Great Train Robbery was on its way to Wales in order to be incinerated so, in effect, Ronnie Biggs et al merely put it back in the system and, quite apart from that, it was considered to be the Queen's money and therefore the crime amounted to almost a treasonable offence as it was a crime committed against the Crown.

Oh an early method of 'quantitative easing' Smiler

I was thinking of voting UKIP also, especially if they can verify what they've written on the leaflet which I received, that Britain pays ÂĢ40 million of taxpayers money to the EU every day.

I think it's about 12 million per day in net contributions. But you have to consider what we get for that.

Well, that could be a worthy exercise for you if you're looking to vote UKIP. You could start looking at trade and how much trade the UK does with the rest of the EU and estimate how many UK jobs depend on it.

Thats got nothing to do with Britain paying the EU ÂĢ40 million a day. This is a much bigger scandal then the expenses row.
P
The EEC was set up to enable free trade among European states, while each retained their own sovereignty, thus bringing economic benefits to all (if you discount the various food mountains etc). It has now evolved into the EU, with political and social consequences not envisaged by the voting public in 1972.
Some EU policies have been good, some bad...that is the nature of the beast. However, it wastes money on a gigantic scale and the auditors have refused to sign off the accounts for years, leading the layperson to believe that it is a corrupt institution, into which we pay far more than our fair share.
I will admit that some UKIP members do not appear attractive to voters, but on the other hand, the shower representing the main parties do not gladden anyone's heart either.

Well it's a lot more complicated than that but I understand why you over simplified it!

Political union was always there in the background (a reaction against the new US and USSR superpowers and a wish to avoid future European conflict after WW2) but that was never going to be bought by the British public back in 1972 so the whole free trade thing was used to sell the idea. And it worked. Economic integration was seen to be the only practical way towards political union.

Churchill himself stuck his oar in back in Zurich in 1946. Big Grin

"I wish to speak to you today about the tragedy of Europe. (...) Yet all the while there is a remedy which, if it were generally and spontaneously adopted by the great majority of people in many lands, would as if by a miracle transform the whole scene, and would in a few years make all Europe, or the greater part of it, as free and as happy as Switzerland is today. What is this sovereign remedy? It is to recreate the European Family, or as much of it as we can, and to provide it with a structure under which it can dwell in peace, in safety and in freedom. We must build a kind of United States of Europe."
Cariad
And back on topic Big Grin:

I'm glad this is making so many people angry. Apathy and complacency have been the order of the day for so long it makes a refreshing change to see so many people up in arms about the issue. Maybe they'll even get off their arses and vote next time - and least then they'll have a reason to whinge about the state of their MP and the country.

One point that does worry me is that there's a lot of hoohaa about "frippery" (claims for coffee tables/TV's etc) and not much hoohaa about the really big claims for mortgage payments and the like. For example no-one has griped about Cameron's mortgage payments. He's a wealthy man who can well afford a stonking great mortgage in London - and frankly would have had a home in London regardless. Yet people are up in arms about some ordinary Joe of an MP claiming for furniture for their essential second home - which may be a modest flat miles from Westminster when their constituency is in the north east for example.

We really cannot revert to the days when the only people who could afford to be MP's were the independently wealthy (like Cameron) or those funded/sponsored by the unions or suchlike.

Correct me if I am wrong but I am sure that I read that although Churchill was in favour of European integration he did not envisage the United Kingdom being part of that integration.
