I think we all knew that mp's salaries are not that great for the work they do etc. it's around ÂĢ65k. cabinet ministers get ÂĢ140k.
and because most mp's have to have 2 centres to work from, i guess like me, you thought well expenses compensating them for having to have two places is fair enough.so i was pretty ambivalent about it al..
but moat cleaning? claimed for by some arrogant twonk that seems to think any questioning of him is an affront by the the hoipoloi who paid for the feckin moat cleaning in the first place!

gawd give me strenth.

........ and, as for that stupid Speaker of the House, Michael Martin, shouting down Kate Hoey in the House yesterday, he should be sacked BUT, yet again, the Speaker cannot be sacked!!

She merely stated that throwing away more public money by having a police investigation into who the whistleblower is would be a waste of further public money but he rudely shouted her down.

I bet he wouldn't be so keen to have the matter investigated if the monies for such investigation were coming out of his own pocket!

We do have short memories. That's how NuLabour got in power in 1997. We forgot what Labour did previously and what they always do: tax and spend until the country collapses. Wink

It's not so much what they are ALLOWED to claim so much as what they're NOT DISALLOWED from claiming.

i.e.
you can claim a, f, t and z
you can't claim l, m, x and y

So someone comes along and says 'well, it doesn't say specifically that you CAN claim n, o and p, but it doesn't actually say you CAN'T, so lets claim it anyway even though it's not really necessary to the job. Smiler

The reason the sick, the old, and the low paid will hurt under the Tories wil be because NULabour has spent all the bl**dy money. Just like they did the last time they were in.
It takes the Tories years to sort out the mess the country gets in after a Labour government.

I must disagree.
As far as I can see The Thatcherites have been in power for thirty years. I will blame Thatcher and her ilk for all this "Greed is good!" crackpot monetarism. It's all her fault. Everything that is wrong now dates back to her. BUT Blair and Brown had sufficient chance to overturn it all. Instead they alienated their own party members and in effect destroyed our Labour Party.
The gap between rich and poor has never been so great.

Isn't that the truth. We cannot recover from our current crisis unless taxes rise or state benefits fall or we have an enormous and miraculous growth in GDP or the state shrinks or we have very high inflation or the value of sterling crashes. Or some mix of those. Tax rises tend to stop growth, smaller state benefits hurt the really needy, high inflation stunts growth and causes instability, and sterling crashing inhibits foreign investment. In short, the next government will inevitably be an austerity government with very little scope to make anyone's life better in the middle and lower classes. It can only set the course for improvement as Thatcher's government did and it will be similarly painful on the way.

And another thing, it must be great to be able to just write out a cheque for thousands of pounds to repay money you weren't entitled to, I see one MP this morning is returning over ÂĢ41,000!. It must be great to know you already have that kind of money in the bank to just pay back plus extra to get by on, even being able to write a check for a couple of grand show's they are not skint! This pisses me off big time.
They are claiming from the same pot of money that pays my wages.Or rather should.I normally work 3 days a week, but have been putting in extra hours at work to prepare for exams and all the other stufff that comes with this term. But theres no money in the budget for me to claim supply payments, hence I've been taking time off in lieu in the afternoons this week.
It's unlikely I'll get back all the hours I've worked. It's not that in itself that bothers me,but the fact most of us who are earning from that pot of money go the extra mile and work more hours than we' re paid for at the best of times. Its galling to have our government taking the piss whilst we work our bloody bollocks off.

Nod No names mentioned, but a guy on the radio tried to justify this. Can you imagine zB the great train robbers saying, "Yes! it's a fair cop, but we will pay it back."

I find it astounding that their expenses per year are 18 months/ 2 years wages for me....they take almost a third of my monthly salary in Tax & Ni, to pay for lots of things that I disagree with...

Some people have said they've been at it for years, why the uproar now. The uproar now is because, thanks to this Government, it's open door policy and lax Banking Rules, the Country is on it's knees.....yet they STILL take, take, take and defend it....we're being told to tighten our belts, and they're living the life of Riley...what a sorry state of affairs! Well, in all fairness, the money from the Great Train Robbery was on its way to Wales in order to be incinerated so, in effect, Ronnie Biggs et al merely put it back in the system and, quite apart from that, it was considered to be the Queen's money and therefore the crime amounted to almost a treasonable offence as it was a crime committed against the Crown.
