It's not just the fact that they have had the cheek to spend tax payers money on luxuries and pathetic claims, but the more I hear about some of them owning 3 or 4 homes, some are even country estates. I know that may sound like I'm being jealous but in times of recession when people are losing jobs or taking pay cuts in order to kep their jobs (I have had to take a paycut myself), how does their lifestyle show people that they are in touch with us normall people. Sorry I just had to rant, but I can't believe these people have had the nerve to do what they have been doing and then be annoyed that we found out!!!!!!

The more that comes out, the more it's showing there's not a party to be trusted. One Tory claimed for his bloody moat to be cleaned What's all that about
I agree. I think that they should investigate everyone in tax avoidance schemes, everyone on the fiddle in local government (that's everyone) the humble office worker, the type who spends all day on the internet, you know, that sort of thing, and sack every wrong doer.
That just leaves me and Miss Prim then.

Its disgraceful, and like you say they are "annoyed" that we have found out when they should be feeling down right ashamed with themselves.

I'm getting excited now. It looks like the LibDems might do quite well out of this if the polls are anything to go by. Nick Clegg is getting himself in the news more and more, which is nice. I rather like him at the moment.
Thing is though, I'm not sure how I need to vote when the biggy election comes. I'm in an area where I might have to vote tactically to get NuLabour out. Looking forward to the European ones though. I think a protest vote might be in order!

I'm not just mad at the Tories but all the aprties, they are just as bad as each other, on Sky news this morning they had an MP on from the Scottish MP, and they have to publicly declare any expenses claims, why don't we do that?
I'm absolutely aghast! In Leeds you have Moran and Kelvin .... (can't remember his surname) both on the same salary, Kelvin's expenses were ÂĢ5,000 and Moran's ÂĢ74,000
If only you people knew the corruption going on behind closed doors .... Its worse in other countries though... You get politicians with swiss bank accounts and enough money to feed their grandchildren's children.
It is a disgrace and I wish there was a way they could all be prosecuted for fraud.
No party is exempt in this - they all seem to be at it. It is shameful.

Do we have different parties anymore, I think they are just the same with different coloured ties. I run my own business and have to provide a receipt for every single thing I claim, no receipt no payment. Why don't they have to do the same thing?
The one that disgusted me the most was a claim for a 5p bag from IKEA.

Me either, they are all the same, it was just the Labour party got dragged into it in the beginning and now it sems every MP, parties and caretakers have been at it

Exactly, seems it's been a free for all
isn't it the fact that none of them are breaking any rules/laws atm, rather they claiming what they are all allowed to claim under the agreement they ALL vote for as part of their remmuneration package in the first place?
and now they are being found out for the greedy buggers they really are..

Ollie I'm one of the few who isnt shocked by the revelations, you do remember what my hubby does for a living dont yah
We never vote, have always thought they were all as bad as each other. I'm really glad to see their dirty washing finally in full view TBH

I more more shocked at the trivial things to be honest, greed is always going to be a factor with some of them. It's the funding of their lifesyle and not just claiming for the necessities that's winding me up

It's the trivial things that taken on there own don't seem to cost much but when added together cost us a fortune that don't surprise me at all
I remember a while back the government going on about *perks of the Job* and telling us all off for taking home pens, pencils etc and reminding us that this was theft and we should be ashamed as we were damaging this country's economy by doing stuff like that. They do the same stuff but make rules (stay within) that that only apply to them that make it OK for them to do it
One of them tried to claim back ÂĢ60 for Remambrance Day Wreaths....sickening!

I know exactly what you mean, now it's all come out hopefully something will be done. I have a mate who is suffering from DVT and Angina and because of a mix up with her payments tries to get by on ÂĢ73 a week, and when you hear all this it makes you so mad.
I am furious that they get to claim for second homes at all when other people who have to travel for a living make do with a Treavel Lodge
however some of these things have been taken out of context not all of them but some.
some things the newspaper claim have been claimed for were on the same receipt as something else but not claimed for
I guess with the carrier bag claim it was on a claim for something much bigger and didn't seem worth taking off or wasn't even noticed
It's a bit like claiming for petrol which I do and buying a newspaper at the same time which is turn goes on the same bill
I know they all add up and some of the claims are sheer greed and a Might as well claim if everybody else does attitude

I guessed it was bad but never anything like this.
It's their righteous indignation that sickens me. "I haven't done anything that isn't in the rules". The nerve of them! How out of touch can they be?

I love the idea of having a moat. I wonder if the guy has a drawbridge too which the taxpayer helps maintain and stuff. I think we should check his receipts for bottles of 3in1 and a lackey to oil the hinges.
oops, Sorry sossyquote:Originally posted by **sossy**:quote:Originally posted by Mount Olympus:

I got sidetracked..
I wasn't shocked. . never am... automatically assumed they had perks of the job.. doubt many really were shocked unless they live in a hole and don't know what goes on in the real world..
I had an expense account when I worked. . tho I got bliddy taxed on it too
Seems the problem is that because times are hard the 'leaders' extravagances are being highlighted much more . . I doubt their spending is any different now to what it was say 2 yrs ago when Joe Public weren't going thru hard times.. just people making a kerfuffle now that the public are having to tighten their purse strings.. they want everybody to do it too and not flaunt their wealth or good fortune. . which seems fair enough I suppose.. kinda...Oh I dunno anymore.. :shrugs:
Ok Ok Ok its a daily mail link but its a great cartoon from Mac, made me smile

Tony Benn claimed only ÂĢ140.....
The one that disgusts me the most is the MP who laid 2 wreaths on the war memorial AND THEN CLAIMED THE MONEYBACK AS EXPENSES

bugger, sorry ollie was off talking about me doggies and missed this
No their spending isnt more than it was 2 years or more ago but I have been doing the and and thing for blummin years now and could never talk about it. I have spent untold years listening to my hubby telling me stuff that he trusted me not to tell anyone else. The Why is simple, if you say anything you will become unemployable/blacklisted. We live/have lived with that for years.
Twas the one thing we had in common, I told him stuff about the voluntary work I did (hint) he couldn't/shouldn't share and he told me stuff about his work he couldn't/shouldn't share.
I would never under pain of death (drama Queen here)tell what I know but I reserve the right to cheer when the shit hits the fan which it should have done a long time past IMHO.
The saying 'honour among theives' has never been so apt!
Sossy know what you mean..
spent my working life in the financial/banking side of some it and am not allowed to tell what I knew/know either

That's what we plan to do with the European Elections deej - a protest vote. We'll probably vote for UKIP just to show the three main parties what we think of this whole sorry fiasco.
Not sure about the main general election as I'm rather disgusted with all this frivolous spending at our expense. I shall wait and see what the results are once the Lib Dems expenses are published but I am liking Nick Clegg and I particularly like Vince Cable (both seem to have a sense of integrity and probity), so I may well switch my allegiance.

SICK MAKING AINT IT people wonder why you have said nuthin but don't realise that unlike our MP's who are protected, if you did open your mouth you could end up in jail and penniless( for breach of confidentiality) and unemployable once you got out

Yes, and they both live in the same road.
I understand that Margaret Moran is now going to repay the ÂĢ22,000 she claimed for treating the dry rot at her property!!
Funny that eh? After she's been found out, she wants to repay it!!!!

........ but Olly, in the Green Book, it states they can claim expenses which are necessary to the running of their parliamentary activities!!
How does that justify Hazel Blears buying a bed which cost ÂĢ551?
How does it justify John Prescott installing fake tudor beams?
How does that justify having your moat and swimming pool cleaned?
Good Heavens - the list is endless as to what these morons have actually claimed within the context of 'conducting their parliamentary business'.
It's shocking, outrageous and a slap in the face for the rest of us hoi-polloi who pay our taxes and other revenues so these sharks can enjoy a feeding frenzy at our expense!
They should be made to pay back every single penny of monies not actually expended on incurring expenses necessitating the smooth running of their constituencies or, indeed, Parliament.
Why do they even need a wage? They claim everything off expenses?

To relax in after a hard day filling expense forms in.

To relax his mind when he looks at them, after a hard day filling his expense forms in.

She need the pool to relax in, after a hard day filling her expense forms in...and the moat...to keep the tax man at bay perhaps????

they had a *wage* so they could show that they are underpaid and have refused increases in there basic wage which proves that they are not greedy *winkysmilie* they then made up their own rules about expenses and made their expenses tax free and hidden while telling jo public that it was only right that jo public's *expenses* should be declared and TAXED in order to ensure fairness.
