I don't know why people go on about the media so much. If it's in your newspaper...turn the page. If it's on telly...choose another channel. If it's in the shops it's not gonna jump off the shelf into your trolley and make you buy it.

I just hope that all the people I've heard over the last few weeks (not only on here) moaning about it are gonna volunteer to work that day so that their colleagues who do want to watch it can have the day off

Well my office is closed and we ALL have the day off what with it being a bank holiday and all but I'll probably spend the day doing my unpaid job - housekeeper, gardener and general dogsbody.  I take Xmas and Easter and all that crap off too since this country dictates it's public holidays largely with reference to the christian calender - but that's all been nicked from old pre-christian festivals anyway so what the hell .

Cags - my point was you can't get away from it. It's on every bloody channel - you flick to another and it follows you about. Hells bells there was even a silly story about it on Radio 4 this morning at half seven.

I have no issue with them getting married, I have no issue with them having a big wedding - their families are both loaded after all - I have no issue with those that want to get all excited about it and have a party and dress up and spend all 8 hours glued to the telly ... if that's your bag then brilliant. Go for it!! I'll probably take a quick nose at some point to see what the frock is like myself. What's really pissing me off is the assumption in almost every media/commercial outlet that we should all be excited to the point of stupidity about it.

Cariad

I'm actually quite looking forward to watching the wedding - nothing to do with national pride or anything like that - I'm just very nosy.

I want to see all the celebrities arriving, their outfits, the dress etc etc.

But I am getting a bit sick of all the programmes leading up to it, William & Kate, Kate & William.... ....too much - it's the same old footage and people interviewed every time.

I'm sure I'll watch on the day for the very same reasons as you.........................as yet - I haven't watched a single programme leading up to it and have no interest in the hype.

I've watched a couple Soozy until I realised it's the same thing being rehashed over and over again.... but then I suppose there is only so much footage they can show.

I imagine it's only going to get worse over the next week

LOL well said Cagney and Suzybean.  I am sick and tired of people whingeing about the Royal wedding and bitching about the Royal family.  Don't bloody watch the wedding if you don't want to... it's as simple as that.  Plenty of people want to....As someone said, many people have not seen a wedding like this before, and it makes them proud and patrotic...  There always has to be a few Royal bashers though.... There aren't that many in my life though, as my family and friends are very old fashioned, patriotic, Royal loving Brits and we are ALL looking forward to it.  It's just the odd person or two that I know at work that has a real downer on it, and a couple of my snotty nosed neighbours who are refusing to join in with all the celebrations.  Grumpy old gits!

Years ago, when me and two of my colleagues said that we like Princess Di, a couple of people at work slaughtered us, and told us why we should NOT like her, and that the Royal family were scum, and a waste of space and a waste of taxpayers money.... (THEIR opinion of course, and not a fact.)  Have to say, speaking from experience, that the 'Royal bashers' are always the same kind of people IMO: very left-wing, and totally 'anti-establishment,' and they hate ANYthing to do with the Royal family, and they can't do right for doing wrong in their eyes....  They are often the feminist 'grow your own food' and 'cook-from-scratch' type, who treat anyone that owns a microwave and gives their kids more than three mcdonalds a year, as appalling parents, and think people are thick scum if they read the Sun Newspaper...

They also hate Valentines and often anything romantic or 'soft,' and think that anyone who has an engagement ring that cost more than fifty quid is 'materislistic' and probably has no soul.....  And they also hate Christmas.... They refuse to buy anything for anyone for Christmas, because it's 'too commercialised,' (not thinking that you can still buy for people without spending a lot...!!! )  it just makes them feel 'cool' by saying Christmas is shit.  It's so anti-establishment you see, to hate Christmas, just like hating the Royal family is!

They also insist that the new millenium began at the start of 2001, JUST to go against the grain and the masses, and they hate celebrity magazines, and mainstream celebrities, and think people who read or look at those type if mags are brainless scum and chavs.  They would never admit to liking lady gaga or s club 7 or the A list Hollywood stars, only Joni Mitchell and Lou Reed, and French actors nobody has heard of, from obscure movies from the 1980s.... Also, they hate really funny modern-day comedians and say they are shit, and claim that old fashioned 1950s 'comedy' like Peter Cook and Spike Milligan is 'real' comedy.  They would NEVER shop in regular high street stores...and only go to farm shops and tiny little independent shops for their clothes and household goods.... And say people who DO shop in regular high street stores are brainless drones.....  And I re-iterate; they detest and pour scorn over anyone who doesn't follow their beliefs.  Sound like some people you may know/know of?    I certainly know a few people like this... Thinking they are cool and 'hip' by being so anti-establishment and slagging off the Royals!

My only moan is, i just found out today, they are getting married at 11am, i thought it was TV coverage starting at that time, not the actual wedding. I had a day planned with my sister...wine and snacks, it will be over by the time i am organised! No way i am having wine at 11am !

I'm the opposite of most of what you said there.

I loved/love Diana

I see no harm in the Royal Family

I love Valentines and being spoiled

I read the Sun

My engagement ring cost more than ÂĢ50

I absolutely bloody love Christmas....

....and Easter and Mothers Day and Halloween

I celebrated the Millenium in NY on 31st December 1999

I love celebrity gossip

I love Lady Gaga and Katy Perry

The best movies came from the 80s but it's films like Back to the Future and Karate Kid

Lee Evans - one of the funniest men I've seen

I buy everything from Tesco and love it when I get my vouchers at Christmas....to spend in Tesco

I remember being up at that time for Charles and Di's right enough..

I'll probably be up at that time. My girls are seeing this as a kinda Disney type romance with Princes and tiaras and stuff. I'd probably sit and watch it by myself in my jammies but I'm doing an indoor picnic party for them

Cagney

Wow Cupcake, you were on a roll there.

I'm looking forward to the wedding. I like Prince William, and hope he and Kate will be very happy. ( I like Prince Harry too, even if he is a bit of a likeable rogue.)

I remember being glued to the TV when Charles and Diana were getting married. It was only a month before I got married and it added to my excitement about my forthcoming wedding.

Evening Yogi - I like Prince William too but not so keen on Harry - think he'll come a cropper one day.

That must have been exciting getting married in the same year as those two

Can't imagine anyone's was

Were you interviewed by the local paper or anything?

I seem to remember they liked speaking to couples who were getting married in the same year

Skylark were you?

No, I was never asked - but I'd have run a mile, if I had been.
