Every man and his dog has covered that though....

... and, ahem, I must admit that the first time I ever heard that song was when it was covered by Duran Duran

This what I mean and no cover has stood the test of time like the original. Whenever anyone hears this song they only ever think of The Steve Harley version...well I do at least.

I think you're right about that one... there are a few others... one that springs to mind is...

For What Its Worth... Buffalo Springfield (?? is that right?)

Is another one I first heard as a cover... but then found the original and preferred it. (assuming that one is the original.... )

But, as a rule.. I am quite up for cover versions, so long as the do something different with it. I like loads.

Exactly my suggestion as well!

However, some Queen songs are brilliant but could still do with a kick up the arse from a cover and I would love to see someone else tackle 'Spread your Wings' which is my favourite queen song but only because I think the arrangement could be bettered.

Some covers are good - I especially enjoyed Alien Ant Farm's cover of Smooth Criminal. And a lot of Tom Jones' Reload which is an album of covers is exceptional. Also Wonderstuff's version of Cuz I Luv you is brilliant.
