I'm utterly flabbergasted that they have done this and tried to justify saying that children have got a better insight to the anatomy of a giraffe than they would from pics.
It's quite ironic that the last time I set foot in a zoo was in Copenhagen. 1972, and then only because I was trying to get off with this chick who wanted to go there.
I just don't believe in them. This particular story, whilst unfortunate, seems to mask over the real story of cruelty.

so much for wonderful, wonderful Copenhagen I read about this yesterday and found it disgusting and tragic. I've never set foot in a zoo and would never wish do so, horrible places.
I know such a sad story in todays news 
that poor bloody animal espesh when he had been offfered numerous places to go.
I heard about this story.
Was it a healthy giraffe? if it was healthy then them killing it was a disgrace.

Yes, it was simply for the fact of inbreeding........so the fellah from the zoo said on the radio this morning. Then he likened it to us killing cows and lambs and pigs
he was 'euthanised' apparently. Well, that's ok then...

When I heard this I was really sad, I love giraffes... but having read that I'm thinking, is it really that different to us killing animals for the meat industry? I mean, they're all perfectly healthy too
Very sad story. Longleat have also put down six healthy lions, seemingly due to excess pregnancies and for fighting [ so, destroyed for being lions basically ].

That is disgusting, and a very arrogant attitude from the zoo bloke.
It's a real shame that they would not take up the offers and let the giraffe live on somewhere else.
It does raise one of those debates about zoo's in general and whether we should have them at all.
I do realise some would argue good work is being done through breeding programmes and research into better protecting animals but I can't say I have visited a zoo since I was a nipper.
