Very well observed Machel, this behaviour seems to be a very American thing: ignore the usual courtesies and play to the gallery or audience. That revolting creature Latoya did exactly the same thing.
I think the behaviour is a sneaky way to get the audience on side through flattery of them so to frustrate the interviewer from asking difficult questions by appearing popular and at one with the people.
It is revolting.
