If it's the size of a red full stop, it's a red spider mite. Harmless. Watch out for the centipedes though - those feckers bite and they're venomous.
If the bright red bug is oblong with antennae... and its bold as brass with a belligerent attitude, then its a lily beetle... and you must destroy it!
