I think what EC means is that his cryptic thread titles ....which often have no relation to the topic ....wonβt work now

@Extremely Fluffy Fluffy Thing posted:I may be wrong, but I get the impression that the bell, works in the same way as the orange 'NEW' disc did. If it's there then clicking on it takes you to YOUR last red post..........and if there's no bell then that means there are no new unread posts!
That's true but the last reply link was the easiest way to get to the end of a topic if you wanted to post a reply where there were no unread posts.

Feeling stupid, but still trying to figure out why it won't work?

Cos the first post will now be visible before you open the thread Lori

But if all you want to do is to get into the thread to post, then you click on <more> by the topmost entry. That's the same as clicking the leftmost tiny avatar from the last forum incarnation.
It does mean you have to scroll down to find the thread, but we've always had to do that (though maybe not as far as we now seem to need to do) if the thread hasn't had any posts for a while.
Wow what happened and I wish it hadn't

Before the update there was more threads per page than there are now so you have to scroll more...

Erm, an unwanted update happened Dameee

can we just blank this year out Moonie,,,,hope you're well and staying safe otherwise I'll box your lugs

Yes, so I said. But as I also said, we've always had to do that if the thread you want hasn't had any new posts for a while. Just might have to scroll a bit farther than before. If you have access to it, you can always use the search function.

What year?
I am quite well and staying safe fankoo
You have better be too or I shall descend on you from a great height and believe me you donβt want that

Ah, I see.
I wonder what would happen if one just spaced down a bit, and left the top of the post blank?
6 rows left blank

I guess itβs just the latest post ....so it wouldnβt matter how many spaces you left .....

Lopks lik the blank lines were ignored
aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
bbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbb
ccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccc
Looks like 2 to 2.5 lines of nonsense will hide the REAL contents!
It was worth the experiment!
testing 1, 2, 3...
well, THAT worked!
In case you're wondering how I did that: I used the little < > in the menu of the posting window (far right). I typed <br> and hit return, 6 times, and then typed my post. The <br> signals a line break in HTML.
But it hasn't hidden it on the HOME page - that's what I was testing.
What I was wondering was if there was a way to just show the name and the <more> button and also restrict it to just the last post of the thread?

I am Moonie, doing my best to avoid almost everyone

Ah. I think not...

Thatβs good to hear Dameee
Regarding the three entries under each Topic title. The top two are the latest replies to that topic. The [More] will be shown even if the reply consists of an emoticon with no text. What is shown is something like Re name of topic [More].
The third line can vary. It may be the 3rd latest reply in which case you'll see [More] at the end. However if the very first posting on a topic has had reactions then you will see the reaction symbols added but with just the name of the first person to do reactions. There is no [More] at the end of the reaction symbols shown.
It's TMI and a messy layout
Sorry - but it's awful
@Lori posted:Ah. I think not...
Wasn't really that hopeful, but it was worth a shot!
Could the default opening page be changed to the Topics.......as was the case for the last version?
The HOME page is, as has been mentioned, rather messy. Also it's function seems rather irrelevant. The Topics page is 'cleaner' and appears to give much the same info.
Unfortunately, that's no longer an option. There's nothing to stop you all from bookmarking this page, though. Then you'd just go to this page every time you hit the bookmark.
It's not perfect, but it might help?
It is possible to create a bookmark which takes you to the first unread reply on a topic or the last reply if there's no unread replies. It is more complicated though than the normal way as it involves creating a bookmarked page, copying the link location from the topic bell symbol (when one is shown) (that address ends with "?reply=unread", going into your browser bookmarks to the bookmark created, going into the properties of that bookmark, and replacing the web address shown there with the locarion address from the bell symbol. It does work but is a rather complicated procedure. So it's easier just to find the topic and click on the bell symbol if shown, or {More] And this is for a specific topic so not too practical

That sounds a bit too complicated for me El

I think it would take longer to do all that than just to scroll down the page!
