Phil Collins has revealed that he is to quit music.

The 'Easy Lover' singer has sold over 150 million records.

"I don't think anyone's going to miss me," he told FHM.

"I'm sorry that it was all so successful. I honestly didn't mean it to happen like that. It's hardly surprising that people grew to hate me."

The star, who now lives in Switzerland, has suffered numerous health issues over recent years, only serving to make his job as a musician more difficult.

He also claimed that he feels like an outsider in the modern music industry.

"I look at the MTV Music Awards and I think: 'I can't be in the same business as this'. I don't really belong to that world and I don't think anyone's going to miss me.

"I'm much happier to write myself out of the script entirely."

The singer recently revealed that he considered suicide during a few rough periods in his life.

I'm surprised he's decided to quit, if it's for health reasons that's one thing but if he's doing it because of those chosen for MTV Awards it's a mistake imho. The ones who make the charts these days aren't necessarily better than bands/musicians from the past it's just a different style now, some think it's progress some not. I've liked quite a few of his records over the years and think he's a good musician and songwriter

Not sure that will happen even with this announcement.  They predicted the Beatles would hit the Top 40 when they announced the release of their back catalog on ITtunes.  Don't think they even made the top 100.

There is one of his that I really, really like ... reminds me of a time in my life

Can't remember what it is though, some might say that's indicative of his music

I shall google ...

It does! a bit of a petulant frenzy going on.. and a wee attempt at guilt-tripping too
I don't know the full extent of the announcement (and of course the media may have edited it so only certain bits made the headlines), but a thanks and a nod to the 150 million sales and those who have supported him would have been nice!
