The sight of a stressed out Polar Bear at Chessington many years ago put me off for life.
I've been to Aspinall's place, and whilst the compounds are big, it still seemed ODD to see such beautiful beasts in captivity. Same with the gorillas and that big old white rhino they had at London Zoo.

its hard going getting up to the elephants at Belfast, but well worth it, i was invited "behind the scenes" (as I was a volunteer at another zoo when I visited Belfast) and met the elephants, it was great 
We took our grandsons last year,hot clammy day,1 tired 3 year old who ended up being carried,1 chunky 1 year old in a stroller which had bags etc on it too, exhausting .Here's a pic of the elephants Barney,thought you might like to see them.

this was taken at Chester Zoo yesterday as the wellybobs were being hosed down in the sunshine, not sure why they needed hosing down, perhaps the waterfall wasnt working
the baby is 2 years old now
We had a totally wicked day! up and out first thing this morning, a really full day there, with a picnic for lunch and to top it all off, we have all caught tans!!

Yeah, was cool to watch!! so bloody quick though, hard to get any really decent pictures!!, that coupled with the reflection thing with the glass!
