X Factor judge Cheryl Cole clearly wanted to stick the knife into controversial contestant Wagner Carillho tonight. However, her transparently pre-planned outburst backfired and might just have kept the eccentric Brazilian in the competition for another week.
The gurning PE teacherβs presence in the singing competition is a joke thatβs long since worn thin β not least because he canβt sing. The audience were realising that during his demented medley of Get Back, Hippy Hippy Shake and Hey Jude. Or βhey jew-jew-wowβ, as he put it. Why kill one Beatles song when you can commit mass murder? While wearing a blue Sergeant Pepper coat and staring sweatily down the camera with the occasional sinister wink?
However, Cole saw fit not to judge this painful performance but take Carillho to task about a tabloid story in which he allegedly, and accurately, called her a "council estate girl". This ill-pitched ploy not only succeeded in drawing the story to the attention of those millions of us who'd missed it, but made Cole look petty and unprofessional. It bullied Carillho into garbling an awkward apology and the studio audience seemed to side with him. Could the nationβs love affair with the Geordie princess be about to end?
Answer: No.
