Scott James can handle 'X Factor' pressure

Scott James insists he will be able to cope with the pressure of being on 'The X Factor'.

The 22-year-old - who wowed judges Simon Cowell, Louis Walsh, Dannii Minogue and Cheryl Cole with his performance of 'You Raise Me Up' on last night's show (20.09.09) - suffers from Asperger Syndrome, a form of autism, but says he will be able to deal with everything that comes with being on the talent show.

He said: "I thought I could cope - it wouldn't have been fair at all for someone to decide on my behalf that I couldn't take part because of my Asperger's.

"Simon Cowell and the producers have given me such support.

"Simon said to me, 'This is going to be difficult, can you handle it?' And I said, 'I'll certainly try. Thank you.'"

Because of his condition, Scott told how he was badly bullied and didn't leave the house for seven years, but is now determined to make a success of his life.

He said: "I'm proud to be autistic. I've met some incredible people with autism. I want to show that we can make a success of our lives."

Perhaps Hicky.  But...... they tend to show the bad ones singing the entire song, and the good ones we only see sing a bar or two.  I know they have to pad the show out, but perhaps the answer is to shorten the show and then we can get to see the decent singers instead of having to sit through all the rubbish.
They don't want to show too much of the good singers at this early stage, they save it for the live shows.
That's why they just fill the shows with the really bad ones.
There must be thousands that would be interesting to watch but they don't even show us.

I loved Curtis .... He reminds me a bit of Rachel last year .... bad past, attitude problem and all that ... but I thought for a 16 year old he could be really good.

Just hope he manages to listen and take on board the advice he is given

I shall look forwards to seeing him at bootcamp.

And the geordie girl who sang a Whitney song, then a girls aloud song .... I wouldn't have put her through to bootcamp ... she's just not vocally good enough imo.

christine bleakley

Holly Willoughby is rumoured to be leaving the Xtra Factor next year and favourite to replace her is One Show host, Christine Bleakley.

“Holly’s enjoyed Xtra Factor but feels the time is right to step aside and let someone else have a go,” a source told The Daily Star.

No doubt Holly is feeling a bit overworked. Between her new role on This Morning, her presenting stint on ITV’s Dancing On Ice and her weekly slot on the Xtra Factor, she can’t have much spare time spendwith her new son Harry.

Christine Bleakley is said to be Simon Cowell’s preferred choice for the ITV2 spinoff show.

"X Factor" Finalists to Try Something New with Sainsbury's

FremantleMedia Enterprises, ITV and Sainsbury's have announced an online content partnership in which Sainbury's will act as exclusive food partner on the official "X-Factor" Web site.

Sainsbury's will provide this year's 12 finalists with cooking lessons to help ensure they eat well while living together in The X Factor house, where fans will be able to view what is happening online. The FME digital team will film the cooking lessons and the fun around the experience.

"We're on a mission to ensure that the finalists' culinary skills match their vocal skills," says Zoe Mclean, a member of the Sainsbury's Try Team. "When you're under a lot of pressure and leading a busy lifestyle, it's easy to neglect your diet. We are hoping that the Sainsbury's Try Team can show the finalists how a nutritious, healthy meal can be knocked up quickly and easily."

The Sainsbury's Try Team is made up of 12 food experts, who spend their days talking to people around the country about the benefits of healthy eating, while encouraging them to experiment with food and cooking.

JLS

STRICTLY is not the only reality show getting a bashing - The X Factor has been given a slap by last year's stars JLS.

The foursome who ended as runners-up, have joined the chorus of disapproval over the ITV1 talent hit's new live auditions.

The lads reckon getting the wannabes to audition in front of hordes of screaming fans is just a rip-off of Britain's Got Talent.

OritsÃĐ Williams said it had even put him off tuning in. He said: "I did catch ten minutes of it on YouTube. It's too much like Britain's Got Talent."

Aston Merrygold chipped in: "I watched it and expected to get a weird feeling because we were there a year ago - but I didn't.

"It's a completely different show now. I don't like the new format - it's taken the build-up away."

Bandmate Marvin Humes added: "Some contestants have been wicked. But it seems like they're already in the live finals.

"You don't get to see personalities properly - they're more confident and playful. It takes away the intimacy."

A poll found 70 per cent of viewers preferred the old system - and we have backed them at TV Biz. We have already said we miss the intimacy of the studio, where hopefuls auditioned with no backing track and just fed-up judges for an audience.

ROAD TRIPPING WITH STEPHEN FRY & CHERYL COLE

CELEBS DRIVING COMPANIONS REVEALED!

TEPHEN FRY and Cheryl Cole have topped a nationwide poll as the celebs we'd most like to take a road trip with.

Over a quarter of people picked eccentric social networking fan Fry as their favourite driving companion.

He also scooped the majority of the female vote with 28 per cent.

But it was X Factor star Cheryl Cole who was a hit with the gents, beating other female celebrities such as TV presenters Holly Willoughby (11 per cent) and Fern Britton (9 per cent).

Over 28 per cent of men preferred to hit the road with the Girls Aloud singer in their passenger seat.

MAKE SURE YOU ARE FOLLOWING OK! ON TWITTER!

Simon Cowell was the second favourite male in the poll at 13 per cent of overall votes and - despite his notoriously short fuse - was particularly popular among women with nearly one in five choosing to share their car with him.

Lothario Russell Brand proved yet again that he’s a lady’s man, gaining 14 per cent of the women’s vote compared to just 6 per cent of the male vote.

Psychologist and author David Moxon said: “As cars and driving are often perceived as a masculine, macho pastime, it’s not surprising that males chose an attractive female to have as a passenger.

"Perhaps unconsciously they would see it as an opportunity to ‘show off’ their driving prowess.

"The fact that Stephen Fry however tops the poll for both men and women suggests that people prefer to liven up journeys that might be quite tedious and boring with some witty conversation.

"This will not only make the journey more pleasant – it will help keep the driver alert and reduce stress levels.”

The poll by AutoTrader.co.uk also revealed Queen's Bohemian Rhapsody is the British public's top driving tune.

Dannii Minogue breaks down

Dannii Minogue forced filming on 'The X Factor' to be cancelled when she broke down during filming because one of her favourite contestants didn't make it to the competition's final 24 contestants.

Dannii Minogue breaks down

Dannii Minogue forced filming on 'The X Factor' to be cancelled when she broke down during filming.

The reality TV judge sobbed inconsolably when she had to tell a male singer he hadn't made it to the show's final 24 acts.

A source told Britain's Daily Star newspaper: "Dannii felt a real bond with this singer and was heartbroken to be the one to deliver the news.

"She really cares about the people on the show and letting them go is the worst part of her job.

"She started crying and so did the poor lad. It was all so much that the cameras were switched off to give them both time to compose themselves."

Despite being a favourite to win the show, the unnamed contestant was eliminated when the judging panel - which also includes Simon Cowell, Cheryl Cole and Louis Wash - picked six acts each to jet out to exotic locations for further evaluation.

The contestants will then be halved to 12, who will compete in the show's live finals, which will start in October.

Cheryl will mentor the under 25 boys in this series, while Dannii will look after the under 25 girls. Simon will mentor the contestants over 25 and Louis will once again look after the groups.

ALEXANDRA BURKE'S SECRET TATTOOS

Alexandra Burke has to cover up her three tattoos because Simon Cowell doesn't like them - but says she is planning to get more.

Alexandra Burke hides her tattoos from Simon Cowell.

The 'Bad Boys' singer - who won British TV talent show 'The X Factor' - has three inkings, including one on her neck. Although she is keen for more body art her mentor, who heads her record label SyCo, isn't happy.

She said: "They're all hidden. I'm not going to get any on my arm or anything like that or Simon will kill me. He was like, 'Why are you getting tattoos?' and I was like, 'Because I like them.' "

While Simon dislikes her body art, Alexandra is thrilled with the tattoos and enjoys the pain of the needle.

She added to Attitude magazine: "I'm already addicted to the pain of it. The one on my foot killed. I think it's because it's on the side bone. I screamed my head off in the shop."

Alexandra is not the only star to reveal an obsession with tattoos.

Megan Fox loves her flesh etchings so much, she insists prospective boyfriends follow her lead and get tattoos.

She admitted: "I have eight tattoos. All my boyfriends are required to have one and if they don't have one yet, I make them get a tattoo of my name or my face."

'X Factor' bosses deny final 12 'leak'

'X Factor' bosses deny final 12 'leak'

X Factor producers have dismissed claims that the names of the show's finalists have leaked.

Show bosses spoke out following an email campaign which appeared to reveal which acts will be competing in the live episodes this year.

Fans of the ITV1 talent search still have over a week to wait before the identities of the final 12 are officially announced. Viewers will see the contestants whittled down at boot camp this weekend before the judges' houses stage airs a week later.

The email in question claimed to have insider knowledge of the hit programme and went on to name 12 acts as this year's finalists.

However, a spokesperson for the show has now insisted that the rumoured lineup is a hoax.

The representative told the Evening Herald: "This email has been copied and pasted from a fans' forum which speculates over who has made it to the final 12.

"There is no leak and we're quite happy that's where it came from. Fans of the show have been discussing it for some time."

The X Factor continues tomorrow at 8pm on ITV1.

Dunwoody ‘to fall at first hurdle’ in Strictly Come Dancing

Richard Dunwoody and Lilia Kopylova during the dress rehearsal for tonight's edition of the BBC entertainment programme Strictly Come Dancing

Retired jockey Richard Dunwoody is the bookies’ favourite to fall at the first fence this weekend in Strictly Come Dancing.

According to Betfair, the three times champion jockey from Co Down is the most likely contender among the second batch of dancers to be thrown from the saddle, with odds of 6-4.

Jo Wood and partner Brendan Cole are the closest couple in danger at 5-2.

Ricky Whittle, who spent most of his teens living in Northern Ireland, is the favourite to win at 5-2.

Betfair spokesman Michael Robb said: “Dunwoody is the current favourite to go but the betting suggests it’s not clear cut. It does, however, look like it’s one of either him or Jo Wood.”

The odds might see him in a precarious position, but Dunwoody is hoping to prove the punters wrong by fitting in some extra bonding time with dance partner Lilia Kopylova. Dunwoody has turned the tables on his Strictly co-star by introducing her to his way of life.

The sportsman has reversed the roles by bringing Lilia out and teaching her how to ride a horse.

The pair were spotted enjoying the countryside at Wimbledon Village Stables in London last week, where they embarked on a cross-country trek by horseback. Dunwoody is the first jockey to foxtrot across the Strictly dancefloor and is hoping that — with the luck of the Irish — he will make it all the way to the final.

He said: “The one great thing about this show is that you are learning a new skill, which really sets it apart from many other shows on TV.”

X Factor boot camp walkout

X Factor boot camp walkout

Some X Factor hopefuls walked out of the show's boot camp after being told that they had to perform in groups, a report has claimed. Simon Cowell told the remaining 200 wannabes that they had to "team up" with other acts to audition for a place in the final 50.

Show rules meant that groups were counted as a single act, and as a result some contestants had to audition on stage with up to 11 other singers.

Some of this year's contestants told The Sun that the decision was "psychological torture".

Katrina Lee said: "People couldn't always choose the song they wanted to perform. Some groups struggled working together, got stressed and forgot the words."

Another bootcamper, Dwayne Lemonte, said: "You could have as many as 12 people on stage at one time.

"You had to make your line the one moment to shine. It really knocked me off my feet compared to last year."

He added: "Some people made a real fool of themselves."

'X Factor' Curtis "sorry" over knife past

Saturday, September 26 2009, 10:50 BST

By Adam Silverstein

X Factor hopeful Curtis Moore has apologised for turning to robbery following the death of his brother.

Judge Simon Cowell was accused of glorifying knife crime earlier this week by allowing the 16-year-old to participate on the ITV1 talent show.

Moore revealed his criminal history after a series of images which show him wielding a knife leaked online.

He told The Sun: "I was an idiot. I'm sorry. I was so stupid, I was 13 and trying to be cool. The older kids carried knives so I just wanted to be like them.

"But I never carried a knife daily. I knew you could get five years. And I know people who have been stabbed."

The contestant, who now lives with foster parents in Walsall, added that he "lashed out" in the wake of the death of his brother Aaron, who died in a car crash aged 20.

"My mum wanted me to get away from Redditch. Now I just hang around doing my music at home. I hate the idea of people seeing me as this knife-wielding thug, that's not me anymore."

The X Factor continues tonight at 8pm on ITV1.

Cowell 'signs huge deal for US X Factor'

Cowell 'signs huge deal for US X Factor'

Simon Cowell is set to take The X Factor to US screens after extensive negotiations with Fox TV, according to reports.

The Mirror says that the mogul has struck a deal worth around 65 million pounds to export the show to the States - although he will stay behind the scenes as a producer.

Cheryl Cole, Louis Walsh and Paula Abdul are among those said to be in the running to join the judging panel.

The paper reports that Cowell landed the big-money contract as part of his latest American Idol deal, which Fox has been keen to renew for a further two years.

"Simon knew how much they needed him for Idol but there was no deal until they agreed to do X Factor," an insider said.

"It's been a long hard slog but we got there."

Cowell's spokesman Max Clifford denied that any deal had been done - but speculation is mounting that Cowell will announce the deal at his 50th birthday party next weekend.

"The deal has been virtually done for the last two weeks but there are still a couple of loose ends that need to be tied up," a source told the Mirror.

"There has been lots of to-ing and fro-ing but things are pretty much there."

X Factor: Contestants angry about bootcamp groupings

x-factor-logo

X Factor contestants were up in arms when they attended this year’s bootcamp, after being told that they had to group up with two other acts.

Worst affected were the groups. When they joined two other acts, there were up to 12 singers on stage, all vying for some of the judges attention.

Katrina Lee, who had plastic surgery for the show, told The Sun: “People couldn’t always choose the song they wanted to perform. Some groups struggled working together, got stressed and forgot the words.”

Nyima Small, who previously appeared on 2002’s Popstars: The Rivals said: “It felt like they had planned it to make it more dramatic.

“I ended up singing Diana Ross’s Ain’t No Mountain High Enough, which is a song I can’t bear.”

Duane Lamonte – a pal of former winner Leona Lewis – said: “You could have as many as 12 people on stage at one time. You had to make your line the one moment to shine.

“It really knocked me off my feet compared to last year. Some people made a real fool of themselves.”
