The sister of a Norwich City player won the backing of judges and members of the public as she made it through to the next round of hit television show X-Factor.

Sharlene Russell, who goes by the name of Shar Alexander and is the sister of City midfielder Darel, tonight survived the public vote and made it through to the final 11 as part of girl band Miss Frank.

The trio, mentored by Louis Walsh who was absent from last night's show following the death of Boyzone's Stephen Gately, were described as having “huge potential” by judge Simon Cowell and as “fresh and original” by Cheryl Cole.

Their success came after Russell issued a rallying cry for people to support his sister.

Speaking after the game on Saturday, which saw the Canaries win against Carlisle 1-0, he said: “I know all the fans have supported the club and there have been some fans there that have supported me over the years and I'm going to call on all the people of Norfolk and Norwich supporters to try and support my sister over the coming weeks.

“I am really excited for her. She has been plugging away for many a year now and is now getting a kind of break.

“Hopefully the stage is not too big for her and she grabs it with both arms and puts some great performances in and gets what she deserves. She has been plugging away for a long time.”

Sharlene, 25, originally got through to the boot camp stage of the show performing as a solo artist. It was while at the camp she met up with Graziella Affinita and Shaniece Davis, and they decided to form Miss Frank and go into the competition as a band.

On Saturday's show, Dannii Minogue described them as having the “cool factor” while Louis Walsh said they were a female version of previous X-Factor finalists JLS.

Tonight's show saw rival girl band Kandy Rain ousted by the public vote. The all-girl group from London were narrowly beaten by Rachel Adedeji in a final contest after they both received the lowest number of votes following their live performances on Saturday.

Thats cool for her, I heard Olly Murs is a big Man Utd fan but I still don't want him to win haven't really took notice to him really. Apparently Rooney likes Danyl Johnson
You need a few fans these days or you'll get nowhere.
They are a nice bunch of girls.
But the fun is over for another week.

The best bit of tonights show was when Alexandra stopped singing for a fraction of a second and yet her voice was magically still being pumped through the speakers....
I noticed that too. In comparison, Robbie demonstrated repeatedly that he was live. Did anyone think he looked a bit 'manic' (or even scared) when talking to Dermot though?

In a nutshell the two weakest acts were up for the vote, however it wasn't fair on them or Alex to have 'em on the same prog as a real entertainer, wired or not. Next week it will be a lot fairer when the crock Cheryl struggles through her new single, no doubt drowned in backing singers, voice enhancers, and distracting light shows.

A paparazzo fell under the wheels of a car carrying Robbie Williams last night.

The snapper - known as Steven, 18 - got caught beneath the Chrysler as the ex-Take That star exited The X Factor studios in Wembley.

Robbie, 35, apparently got out of the car to check on the man following the accident.

'Everyone was screaming,' an onlooker tells the Daily Mirror. 'It looked really serious.'

Police said the photographer suffered minor injuries.

Robbie's single Bodies is out today. His album Reality Killed The Video Star follows on 9 November.

'X Factor' hosts told to back John and Edward

Dermot O'Leary and Holly Willoughby have been ordered by 'X Factor' producers to back John and Edward following a media backlash against the Irish twins.

  • 'X Factor' hosts told to back John and Edward

Dermot O'Leary and Holly Willoughby have been ordered by 'X Factor' producers to back John and Edward.

Bosses are worried about the backlash the Irish twins have faced since they were put through to the show's final and sent a memo to Dermot - who hosts the main show - and 'Xtra Factor' presenter Holly urging them to show their support.

The memo reportedly read: "It would be great to defend John and Edward."

A source added to Britain's The Sun newspaper: "Bosses didn't expect the twins to get such a bad reaction from the public. They want people on their side."

More than 100,000 viewers have joined Facebook groups opposing John and Edward, and they are now one of the widely criticised acts in the show's history.

Dermot and Holly have also reportedly been ordered to say judges Cheryl Cole and Dannii Minogue are friends, despite persistent rumours they bicker backstage.

The presenters are also said to have been urged to make light of judge Louis Walsh's comments that he won't win because he's in charge of the Groups category.

The source added: "Even Simon Cowell was annoyed with what Louis said. He made it sound as if he didn't care about his acts. Producers don't want viewers to think that."

I can't believe that they can tell people who to back, they should all be Neutral.

Cheryl Cole joined by Girls Aloud on X Factor

Cheryl Cole was supported by her Girls Aloud pals Kimberley Walsh and Nicola Roberts at the X Factor results show last night. Despite the fact that Simon Cowell had tried to slap a “no celeb” rule on the judges this year — banning them from bringing their famous friends along in a bid to make more room in the audience for Joe Public — Kimberley and Nicola turned up anyway.

Quick take on last night's show. The opening ensemble was a pile of shit. Lucy was the only one who sang in tune. Alex Burke was bloody fantastic and IMO much more accomplished than Leona (who just stands there like an erect corpse that's about to cack itself). Robbie had got up close and personal with class A. Rachel forgot what she was singing and a couple of the birds in Kandy Rain are questionably blokes.

I can understand why Rachel was in the bottom 2, I find it hard to warm to her.

The new results show is a joke, it is the same as last year's 35minute results show except its an hour long, the padding out of the Sunday night show is a joke- also I don't know about anyone else but one person coming on to plug a new song is enough for me. From now on I am just tuning in at 20 to 9 just when the results are being announced.

I thought that too before the live shows ..... but with her revamped look & her first performance, I personally  thought she came across alot better

Vocally, I didn't think she deserved to be in the bottom 2 .... there were far worse than her, imo.

Alex looked amazing, and tore it up...I wasnt keen on the song but I cant get it out of my head now....Robbie did as Robbie does and the rest was all a fuss about nowt!
Trollop
I have to say the twins werent that bad...in fact if they didnt have all that ridiculous complicated routine to remember they'd have been loads better. They are quite good movers when they were just doing their own thing - it was when they had to concentrate on the silly bits they were weak.
I actually think they could be GREAT!
I was mostly supporting them cos I felt sorry for them but now I love them properly. They are only 17 and to face all this petty vicious hatred is bluddy huge. So they fucked up a first impression, so what. GIVE THEM A CHANCE YOU BUGGERS!!!

I OFFICIALLY LUURVE THE TWINS!!!
