Cheryl Cole has sparked speculation her marriage is on the rocks after failing to wear her wedding ring two nights running.
The Girls Aloud beauty â who is married to soccer player Ashley Cole â appeared on UK TV talent show 'The X Factor' over the weekend with her wedding finger noticeably bare.
Friends now say the pair's three-year marriage is in tatters and it is only a matter of time before they announce their split.
One said: "The truth is, the marriage is over, even if neither of them wants to confront it. They still have the occasional moment of fun but they both know, particularly Cheryl, that this isn't going to be forever."
Last year, Cheryl was left devastated by claims her husband had cheated on her with hairdresser Aimee Walton and while she decided to forgive him, pals say the marriage never recovered.

Dannii Minogue's boyfriend Kris Smith has blasted Simon Cowell for voting against Lucie Jones on The X Factor.
Welsh singer Jones, who was mentored by Minogue, became the fifth act to be eliminated in last night's controversial results episode. She was announced as the contestant with the fewest votes after Cowell chose to save her sing-off rivals John & Edward, bringing the judges' verdict to deadlock.
Model and former rugby player Smith has now spoken out in support of his lover's ex-protÃĐgÃĐ on Twitter, The Sun reports.
He commented: "Gutted for poor Lucie, what a disgraceful decision. Can't believe she went out, thought I was watching a SINGING TALENT show, obviously wrong."
Meanwhile, Minogue has used her own Twitter page to drum up support for her last remaining act Stacey Solomon.
She said: "Support Stacey - it's the only way forward!"

Oh poor ''nation's sweetheart'' Chavryl
I think she's better without him. It really is sad when a marriage breaks up
If things aren't right, and they don't seem to be, get out now and start again.
Whoever wins will be lining up Simon's pockets and doing the next cover version of a track, nothing new. I have heard rumours next show is Queen week.
I can't say I have engaged with him, but I do think he is the best vocalist and don't think he deserves the comments being written about him or said about him on the show. I love Olly and hope he goes on to win
I am liking the twins and really felt for them on the xtra factor. They are getting dogs abuse but still just going at it It's not their fault that Lucy was in the bottom two. Was sad to see her go though, she was a great singer if a little dull
Only really care about him, John and Edward and Jamie Archer out of who's left. Olly is alright also.
Olly is my favourite with Danyl second. I said earlier, he doesn't deserve the stick he is getting but as Simon says - it could be "mind games". I don't think he is going to win, but I reckon he will be in the final
Ok so it's Queen week and apparently John and Edward are doing wait for it... Radio Gaga.
I thought Simon was outraged by those twin freaks' popularity, but obviously not if it brings in the ratings, eh?
Proof that the show has nothing to do with singing and everything to do with lining Cowell's pockets and boosting his meeja profile. As if we didn't already know that..
Thank Bog his money making scheme has nothing to do with the BBC or we'd never hear the last of it.
X Factor Week 6: Queen Week?
November 9th, 2009 by Lisa McGarry. Tags: itv, John and Edward Grimes, X Factor, X Factor 2009
This rumour is by no means confirmed, but Expose on Irish TV channel TV3 have suggested that this weekâs X factor theme is Queen Week.
It would seem a strange theme, given that the celebrity guest this Sunday will be Shakira, surely a latin theme would be more appropriate? However the sources suggest that John and Edward Grimes will be singing Radio Gaga and that does seem like the big production number which Louis would assign to them.
Ofcom confirmed today it had received âmore than 50âģ complaints since the show aired, less than 24 hours ago. Exact figures and the details of complaints will be released Wednesday.
A spokesman said: âThere are a number of complaints which we are looking into.
âThe number of complaints and the issues raised will be taken into consideration before we decide whether there needs to be a full investigation.â
Last nightâs audience peaked at 16.6 million viewers, the highest peak in the shows history.
, ain't they got nothing else to do?.
