I'm going to come over as a bit of a wanker here but I thought that second half was rubbish and England well deserve to be out. 

People will say we did well but that's only because we've got so used to England being absolutely cack in every single tournament going and I know you can only beat what's in front of you but at the end of the day, a tiny country with a tiny football league with nothing like the resources of England were vastly better than us on the night and on most nights.

Yes, it was a lot better than being kicked out by Iceland at the group stages plus a load of other football minnows over the decades but it's still not all that.  I think we'd have been hammered by France had we reached the final anyway.  We aren't good enough, simple as that.

Here's a thought: the 3rd-Place Play-off between Belgium and England on Saturday will be the second "dead-rubber" they've played against each other this tournament!

That's only cos it's a relatively young team though. We will get better  As has been said....some of that squad weren't even alive the last time we got that far

Was going to post a similar comment earlier. A lot of "Johnny-come-latelies" were expecting Kane to lift the trophy, but most fans would have been perfectly happy with making the Semi's at the start of the tournament...

That's only cos it's a relatively young team though. We will get better  As has been said....some of that squad weren't even alive the last time we got that far 

Southgate has a very good point when he said that players get knocks and long term injuries.  Promises for the future rarely come true.  How many times have fantastic youth sides not ended up making the grade and fulfilling their promise.   I think he's right, there's no time like the present, opportunities don't come very often.  We saw how the last 'golden generation' managed to achieve absolutely sod all despite their Hollywood status.  

We were poor tonight and Croatia well-deserved their win.  In the second half Croatia were stringing almost all their passes together while England were mostly kicking and hoping all while the studio pundits were droning on about how crap Croatia were compared to England.  The amount of back passes to Pickford, the writing was on the wall.  I seriously think we'd have been hammered by France in the final but it would have been great to get there.
