True, but the ones they stated before were never used so maybe they have 'secret' ones up their sleeves? (doubts very much btw).
The washing machine wasn't a red herring - the HMs were too thick to find it.

The target wasn't a red herring either. BB originally planned to use it in a task, but then dropped the idea because it didn't work well during playtesting.
This sort of thing happens every year to varying degrees. BB plans "twists" which are then delayed or abandoned, either because of "events", or because they realize the idea wasn't that great after all...
