i know hope that older girl isn't mean to her, fancy putting her in with a teenager

I know she obviously has problems of her own...

Nobody took her aside, got down to level and welcomed her........just shoved her into a place where the children of all ages had problems, but the staff looked like they needed a re-cap in childcare....

There's always Kevin Costner in tights on C5 if I can't handle it... Smiler

I thikn I'll stick with this, Sarum! That little girl looks really like a young Samantha Morton don't you think?

She does, yes; very well cast.

(what's wrong with Kevin Costner in tights?)

Prob is many haven't had a 'first-cap' never mind a 're-cap. I worked in a kids home on leaving uni' no training, 21 yrs of age BUT loads of love to give, a fair smattering of common sense, a relevant degree, and I hope, beyond hope, that I was always understanding, caring etc.etc. and a real champion for those kids causes...unfortunately that wasn't true of all of my colleagues- some right Bastards

If this is truly happening today....One child (and many more)lost in the bloody system set up to HELP her, even perhaps in my (Fluffy) mind show her that life does'nt all have to be BAD...........

Is this really based on Modern day events?

I am not naive enough not to think there is good and bad in most proffessions, but to throw a small child into........that.....

It's awful isn't it, Syd? I'm lucky enough not have had or know anyone who's had experience of the system, but given that it's run by humans of which there are good and bad in all walks of life, I suppose it could be happening.

Think things have changed considerably BUT imo pendulum has swung too far the other way- kids either maintained at home when they should really be removed, or if they're 'lucky' placed in foster care where often they experience multiple rejections and placements...we soooo need more good quality alternative care where children will be loved unconditionally, encouraged and valued etc...think that's the message this weeks programmes on this subject is trying to give

Its very disturbing.....they take a child away from danger.......fill in the relevant paperwork........and shove them in, without a thought about the feelings of the child..just that they have "Done the right thing".....

You talk as if you've experience in this sort of thing, Super?

Yes, on a professional rather than personal level Kaffy...but, before anyone jumps on the bandwagon I've seen on other threads re social workers " are all scum," " all need sacking" "are fleecing their own nests" etc. I would have to counter that by saying that, in my experience, the majority of folk who work in these and related professions are as appalled as anyone by this appaling practice

No experience needed........a young girl sat across a table in room with a stranger....slightly happy after being shopping.....alone in the world....

the stranger says "because I am being paid petrol money now, I can visit you more often" (meaning the paperwork is in place).......

"would you like a look of warmth?, a hug?, a chat?"

accept the stranger never offered her the last questions..........

Yes I had a feeling it was in a professional capacity. Like everything else, there's good and bad in every profession, but it's the bad that make the news.

Yes, I took all that in too, just was wondering if it was likely to have its roots in reality. Sadly it seems it can do...

I know what you mean, it's compelling though. The little girl is a brilliant actress (I hope!) She just looks so broken and 'empty'.

Just reading about it on here is bad enough, Kaffy Frowner

In fact........... Wave xx

I know what you mean deegs, but it honestly isn't a spectator sport, (well certainly not for me,)....the people who've been doing these programmes this week are imo, truly doing so in the hope of raising public awareness, so that things will change

Not sure what's going on with your posts here poolshark..and maybe your justifiably/understandably defended, in which case I apologise in advance...but don't you think you're kinda missing the point?!?

I totally understand the point of the programme and the message it is trying to tell, but I just thought I would mention that it was strange seeing my city on the telly being Notts bloke myself and living here, obviously that was part of the reason as well why I wanted to watch this programme, we in Notts are very proud of Samantha Morton.
