I'm recording it, EC

I've got a great quote about Burton told to me by my pa in law.

I won't name the other man involved, but he'd had a stroke - recovered - only to be struck down with cancer; it had ended his commentating career.

Burton was determined to help though.

"Oh" says RB "...and if you want any help or anything as mundane as money, just let me know"

How cool is that?!

That's a great little anecdote - I can almost hear Burton's distinctive voice as I read your post.

At 22:25 on BBC4 there's The Richard Burton Diaries (following on from Burton & Taylor).

What did you think to the programmes Cosmo?

I could not stay up for the doc on Burton.

Will see if there is a catch-up.

Evening EC

I've still not watched Burton and Taylor but I did watch the documentary.

TBH, there wasn't much that I didn't already know but it was still a good recap of what the man was about.  Some good intimate clips too.  You might find it interesting if only to compare with how he's portrayed by Dominic West.  Also, those interviewed (e.g Robert Hardy plus family members) give their take on his relationship with Taylor.

Hiya Cosmo. I'm unfortunately off to bed now.

Will take your recommendation and check out the Doc. I do love a good documentary.

I don't know for sure, but later tonight on BBC4 there's The Making of Cleopatra** - it leads me to presume that all the Burton & Taylor stuff will be repeated or on a loop over the next few days

If I see anything I'll let you know so that you can record it for later

Edit:  ** It's called Cleopatra: The film that changed Hollywood

When BjΓΆrk Met Attenborough.

Absolutely fascinating, quite possibly my favourite programme of 2013.

Saw that was on earlier EC

It's on record on plus one now on your recommendation

I hope you enjoy it as much as I did Velvet.

It helps that I like the work of both BjΓΆrk and Attenborough and I have a big interest in music in general.

I'm now watching John Wayne, Robert Mitchum and James Caan in El Dorado !!

Twice in two days you have said here what I was reading.

Whilst having the film on I read about it on Wikipedia. Specifically...

The poem repeated in the film is "Eldorado", a ballad poem by Edgar Allan Poe. Caan continuously mispronounces the verse "Ride, boldly ride" as "Ride, Bodie, ride," confusing audience members unfamiliar with Poe's poem.
