"The Towering Inferno" is the daddy of "all star cast" films, and IIRC it was the first Hollywood film made as a co-production between two major studios. Warner Bros. and 20th Century Fox had both bought the rights to books about skyscraper disasters, so they decided to combine their resources and star names.

And yes; both source novels were inspired by the building of the World Trade Center...

I know exactly what you mean. I loved this movie when I was younger, but like many movies that I loved and have revisited in my adult years, they have disappointed me, so I'd rather not watch them again and keep the memory of them being amazing movies.
