It's my experience, too. The other week, old bloke nearly walked right into me as I was going through some automatic doors - then had the cheek to shout: "You could have walked around me!" (Actually I couldn't have, unless I walked backwards).

So I snapped back: "And YOU could have walked around me - you ignorant old git!" Don't think he was expecting that Ninja

And on another occasion, as I was struggling through two sets of double doors, who let the first set slam in my face? A group of respectable, white-haired 'ladies'.

And who held the second set open for me? Young black lad in a hoodie, with a group of his hoodie mates. Exactly the sort of lads those 'ladies' would have taken one look at and stereotyped as yobs. Ironic, eh?

As it is, I think you can be rude at any age - old, young and in-between.
And you can be polite at any age.
I totally agree, but people accuse young people of being rude but the old people are just as rude...

To be honest pretty-cocoa-eyes, I find the older generation (usually 50-55+) MUCH ruder than the younger generation. I don't know why it is, but they are rude, they jump queues and they shove you out of the way in supermarkets, when you are looking at something, and they can be very obnoxious and arrogant.. I find younger people much more polite. Teenagers can be a bit rowdy in their groups, but the vast majority of them are polite and pleasant (to me anyway...)

Women are much ruder and more arrogant than men IMO. I get men being rather polite to me; men of all ages... but women have a tendency to be ruder. Not ALL women of course, but for every rude man, there are 5 rude women. Although I have to say, 90% of people are OK on the whole.

I agree with everything you have just said.... How do you deal with people who jump the queue? I hate confrontation so I just leave it Mad

There was this instant I was trying to help this older lady pack her shopping and she screamed at me like as if I had some disease, the shop assistant had to apologise to me... Never again will I help anyone.... Shake Head

The older people I seem always seem to complain when mothers bring their pushchairs on the Bus as they expect to be sitting there when it's meant to be for pushchairs. When young people have been sitting there I have noticed most of us seem to move, where as the older people expect to stay there when it's meant to be for the babies. Makes me mad Mad.

Most of the time I do ignore it PCM, but it is extremely annoying and I must admit, that I will do my level best to make sure they DON'T and CAN'T push in, by being bolshy and making sure *I* am served first, or saying to the assistant 'I WAS HERE FIRST.' When I have done that, the person grunts and gives a filthy look and then walks out in disgust LOL. WHY do they think they have a right to push in?! Mad

Exactly, they just ignore the fact that there is a 10-15 people queue. I told one lady once that there is a queue and she said *Oh is it* and then she stood to the side and went to the counter after me Laugh

Very true Darlo, I notice that all the time. The narky older individuals seem to have a self righteous sense of entitlement. (I fought in the war for you young lad...)

This is not a sweeping generalisation just my experience.....

How about you guys?

do you work in tesco or summit - cos if not, perhaps some random person pouncing on their shopping and packing it away could be misconstrued as the actions of somebody with ultior motives - eg theiving from them =- Im no where near 80 but I would find it somewhat odd if somebody who wasnt an employee of the supermarket walked up and started to fondle my shopping

I think you will find that it isnt soley designated for ppl with pushchairs but also for people in wheelchairs - or at least the buses I use are - think yourself luck there are buses with steps which lower and special areas to accommodate pushchairs and wheelchairs cos its not that long ago that I was pushing a buggy with a baby in it and a toddler in tow aswell and I had to make do with a normal seat and fold the buggy up cos there was no way I could have got on the bus with it unfolded and the baby sat in it - but then Im over 40 and maybe Im one of these OLD people everybody is moaning about

Hi Zaylee.

I am 42, and personally, find the rudest people I experience ARE older, like 50-55 plus, but some aged 40 to 50 can be a bit rude too. Even though I am 42, I am prepared to admit that older people are ruder than younger ones - (IN MY EXPERIENCE that is.)

As I said, the majority of people of ALL ages are fine, but out of the rude people *I* experience, the vast majority are over 50, and are female. But yes I agree that the sections on the bus are also for wheelchairs.

BTW I don't think the people on here are being age-ist.; they are merely going on their OWN experiences. I don't think there is anything wrong with that personally. JMHO.

No ususally when I am behind them in the queue, I see them struggling as the sales girl/boy is swiping their goods so I offer to help them pack it into bags how can that be classed as thieving infront of 20-30 people? Confused

maybe young people arent rude to young people cos they are trying to impress them but dont care about being rude to older people cos they dont give a stuff about them - a friend of mine went into the cinema in tears the othe day - she is a little overwgt and some teenagers were mocking her - staring and pointing and sniggering behind their hands - she is a lovely person and managed to save face until she got into the darkened cinema where she was able to cry without drawing attention to herself. Ive experienced gross rudeness from every age group both male and female - you cannot generalise in my opinion

As I said; I am 42, and find older people to be ruder, so I am hardly being age-ist when I am 'older' mySELF.
