However, talks broke down in September, allegedly over Desmond's determination to pay less than the estimated ÂĢ70 million price tag attached to Channel 4's three-year contract for the programme in 2006.

There was a bit more to it than that...
I don't have the story to hand at the moment, but Private Eye covered what happened. Apparently the Endemol boys thought that a deal would be just a formality, but Desmond took them by surprise, being extremely rude and aggressive from the start.
Not only was the deal he offered a lot less than what they got from C4, but Desmond was trying to tie it to viewing figures: i.e. if the show didn't get a specified audience figure, Endemol would forfeit a certain amount of money. Endemol were having none of it, so they walked away.
If this is true, it sounds like either Endemol or Desmond have had a serious change of heart...

I loved George Lamb doing BBLB. .the fact he saw the HM's for what they were.. wannabe nobodys and was irreverent to them instead of sucking up made it even better..

I do hope it comes back too. .with LF as well. .without that tis just another one hour nightly  reality show that I can take or leave. .Big Brother was different cos I could watch it 24/7 if I chose to and see who the HM's really were in a moe rounded way, not what some editor wanted me to see...

He was great for that. He completely owned a few of them. Noirin's Isaac had no come back to him, and he didn't totally fall under the whole JJ and Josie skipping through poppy fields crap.

I'm with you, Issy. It was sad to see Big Brother go, but I got used to the idea, and now I'm not so sure I want to get sucked back in.

Its a waste of energy getting cross about very silly people

And if Davina is presenting it then I definitely won't be watching it.

I could cope perhaps if it was Emma Willis and George Lamb. I loved the fact that George clearly took the mickey.
