Every year of a Boxing Day people seem to go crazy for the Next sale, queuing up for the store opening at 7am. Why do people do this? I've never understood... its just Next, the stuff wasn't that expensive in the first place! I could maybe understand people queuing up for designer bargains at Selfridges or Harrods etc... but I dont get the lure of the Next sale... anyone know?

I would not queue up for any sale but some people love bargains or are short of money and would be prepared to queue up all night especially if it was furniture or household goods, good luck to them
I was there at quarter to seven this morning
Please explain it to me though Arwen!
Well Nexts kids clothes are very fashionable , wash really well and fit miniature me really well (she is very slim).
I don't know about anyone else but I find ÂĢ28 for a 3 piece outfit for her a bit steep and when I can get the same outfit for ÂĢ10 on boxing morning I'm happy to get up a couple of hours early to make sure she is well kitted out for the months ahead. Especially as she is growing so fast.
I spent ÂĢ74 on her and if it hadn't been half price or less I would have spent well over ÂĢ200 which I can't justify
I didn't buy myself anything though
I don't get that part

I went shopping today but I didn't go into Next - it looked like a jumble sale!
I suppose it must be good value for kids stuff, what with them growing so fast they'll grown out of stuff quickly Next baby stuff is nice too... well the girls stuff is, me and B looked at the boys stuff for his nephew and there was hardly anything Baby Gap was ace
I appreciate that everyone likes a bargain too, but it seems to be Next more than any others that whips people up into a frenzy... was wondering what it was about next in particular
I was saying exactly the same thing to OH earlier OP. I don't get it either, I wouldn't queue for any sort of sales, but I really don't get the big deal about Next sales. That said, I have bought some stuff for me and Hetty in the Next sale, but I bought it online on 23rd Dec. If you get Next Directory you get early dibs on all the sale stuff.
I can only speak for myself but Next girls clothes are very different and fashionable. I'm not keen on dressing her up like a big pink marshmallow. I like her in funky shorts and tights and leather boots
(And if it's half the price then all the better )

I bet sh looks dead cool Arwen
oh, I saw the cutest little pink boots in Barrats the other day, I almost had a moment

I agree about the kids clothes Arwen. Nearly all of Hetty's clothes come from Next. There's some lovely stuff at the moment in bright greens and navy. Do you get the directory? I only started getting it this year, mainly for Hetty's stuff, but I got allocated a 6 hour sale slot on 23rd so I bought her a few bits and bobs at half price without having to really search for stuff or the stress of the queues.
Oooh you did , did you?
(She is going to be snow white tomorrow - that should get you back to normal )

No Queenie
How do you go about it? I buy most of Aila's clothes from Next too. I love all the different colours you get for girls too You do tire of pink

I think I went on the website and ordered some stuff online and they automatically send me the Directory. You have to pay ÂĢ4 for it but then you get thta cost refunded if you order anything. It's well worth it though as there's more choice online and some things which are not available in the stores. And of course the sales slots, which I didn't even know about until last Wednesday. I'm sick of pink now too. I don't mind the odd thing in really pastel shades but all that Barbie and bubblegum pink is horrible. When did that happen? Who decided that all stuff for little girls must be pink? I don't remember it being like that when I was little.
Oooh thanks Queenie, I'll take a look
I know what you mean. I had her in pink for the first few weeks and since then I'm so bored of it. I prefer red , green , turquoise , purple and even (to my Grans horror) black! Much more fun.
I have had 20 months to get sick of it though

I was at Next at 6 am this morning I like their cargo trousers and household things - everything is good quality, and I like shops where they mark everythign down by 50% or more, rather than the 'up to 70% off' sales, where the only thing that has been marked down that much is a nice nylon nightie. I would much rather go very early when they first open so that I can get out again quickly whilst the queues are still short rather than wait for an hour or more to pay.
I did think that people were a bit more frenzied than usual this year. I was walking past River Island just before they opened, and thought I would pop in. There was a huge queue, and just as I got in, I heard a woman shouting loudly, then there was a big crash as a display was knocked over. Next thing, two women were rolling round on the floor punching each other, then one of them grabbed the clothes rail that had been knocked over and whacked the other woman round the head There was blood and screaming and everything

maybe not, but many people are skint re: the recession I always take a look in next but they never have anything I want tbh
Apparently their sale is a geuine sale ... all thier sale items really are half price or less.
I couldn't be bothered to queue up for hours in the freezing cold
Aw... I dressed both of mine from Next when they were little.. when i could afford it. I know its not majorly expensive.. .but it is pricey compared to picking them up stuff from Tesco or George.
I'd actually forgotten about Next... i am thinking they may be the place for me to find stuff to fit my 12 year old boy. there seems to be a void for 13 - 15 year old boys, who are not actually yet the size of small men. Also.. boys shoes in size 5. Loads of places seem to stop at 11 or 12 yrs for boys... and at shoe size 3. Then they leap up to blokes sizes.. shoe sizes starting at size 7.
I am surprised there aren't more teenage boys walking around in rags with bare feet!
I bet Next have the right sizes...
I ain't going anywhere near it for a week or two though... I can't handle the sales crowds.
Good to hear that the Next sale is still good... I had wondered if they maintained the TRUE bargains that it became famous for. proper 50% off, this seasons stock.

You wanna know about boys feet...my only just 11 year old is a size 8...and a nightmare to cloth and shoe....
I have looked into the next sale on occasion but never really been impressed

My god daughter has the same size feet as me (5), she's 7! 7!!!!!! She's also in age 11-12 clothes. It's really sad because she wants to wear High School Musical costumes and stuff like her mates but you just can't get anything to fit her.
I'll be home & dry on shoe buying for him when he reaches a 7... til then we have to shop around... and the slippers we got him for xmas *whispers*.. he doesn't know it.. as they are plain black.. but they are from the girls dept!
I do have a major problem finding trousers & jeans that fit him... he's not fat, but he is stocky (he plays rugby.. and he looks like a rugby player)... if I get the right size waist to fit him... and hold them up so the bottoms are on the floor... the waistband would be level with his chin!!!!!
What is that all about... I see fatter shorter boys coming out of his school... where do they shop?

There definitely is.My youngest is fifteen, and six foot one, but very slim.
Debenhams childrens department go up to age sixteen, but very limited in range, and never long enough in the leg for my boy.
lol... is there such a thing...
anyway.. i swear he's not fat...
...he's just got a tum tum
Hardly surprising given the appetite on the kid... he's like a gaping mouthed cuckoo chick!

There definitely is
Its really really bizarre Stoory... they don't leave a gap like this in the girls clothing... I thought I was going round the bend when I last tried to buy stuff for him
At our local high street theres untold places for girls clothes but hardly anything for boys
He lives in sportswear... as that is the only stuff I can find that fits. Luckily thats absolutely fine by him...
Oh and *ahem* matalan.... is the only place I could find pj's for him... and they had a limited but really cool selection of boys smart/casual wear... I got him this shirt, skinny tie & waistcoat set.. and he looks fab in it!

Don't get me started on sizes why do the makers think we are all 'leggy' models
Cos us with log legs had to put up with years of not being able to get stuff long eno
lol... yeah I kept schtum for a min then...
...sorry onetoo... we struggle to get stuff long enough too... was a blessing when most places started doing a longer length size on stuff
...my mum's on the stumpy side though... she swears by a bit of wonderweb JOKE! well, is actually true ... but .. ermmm..

Not a prob Ditty.......but I can't for the life of me see why designers/makers/and all can't cater for all shapes and sizes . After all we really aren't all the same and it would be a hell of a boring world if we all were!
I don't quite get why people queue up to go to Next. It's not as if their stuff is of amazing quality, aspirational or particularly expensive. I shop in Next quite a bit over the year but have never felt inclined to join a queue at 6:00 am (or earlier) on one of the most important bank holiday days of the year just to get ÂĢ15 off a pair of jeans etc.
