they should ship out the MPs who have been fiddling their expenses and let the Gurkhas move in, AND take some of the "can work WONT work" lot with them and let people who have fought and died for this country live in their homes, 
meh - kudos for the Gurhka's but am not fussed on her - she's one of those people who always seem to be 'acting' ..

the picture above is of some of the victoria crosses won by the Gurkhas when fighting for this country,
durring the falklands conflict a whole regiment of Argies heard that the Gurkhas were about to attack them, they very wisely surrendered before a shot was fired,

I think Joanna Lumley is magnificent and is to be applauded for the manner in which she took up cudgels on behalf of the Gurkhas who have for many, many years fought and died for this wretched country only to end up being treated like dross by the Government.
I understand the Home Secretary, Jacqui Smith, is to make an announcement about 12.30pm today.
Keeping fingers crossed that it will result in a favourable outcome.

I've had an email from Joanna today. Text below.
At midday today, Home Secretary Jacqui Smith made the announcement to the House of Commons that the Gurkha Justice Campaign have been fighting for for years. All ex-Gurkhas who have served more than 4 years in the British Army will have the right to settle in the UK if they wish.
After such a long fight, with huge ups and downs, this is a superb announcement.
We simply would not have won this fight without the massive, overwhelming support of all those who have supported our campaign. To the hundreds of thousands of people who have signed Gurkha Justice petitions, lobbied their MP, campaigned, attended rallies and marches - thank you so much to you all. This is your victory. It would not have happened without you.
The Government has now responded to that campaign after court cases, votes in Parliament, a huge media campaign and, most importantly, massive public support. I am delighted, and humbled, at what has been achieved by our remarkable team.
The whole campaign has been based on the belief that those who have fought and been prepared to die for our country should have the the right to live in our country. We owe them a debt of honour - a debt that will now be paid.

Well done to dear old Joanna, and to all the others who have fought to rectify an obvious anomaly in the treatment of Gurkha veterans, but what seems to have been forgotten in the rush to bask in her radiance is that currently serving Gurkhas have the right to live in this country and have been able to for about the last 5 years.

what about the guys who fought in the Falklands conflict though?
they scared the bejeesus outa the Argies, so much that when the Argies heard that they were about to be attacked by the Gurkhas they surrendered before a shot was fired, these guys shouldnt have to ASK us for anything,

At the risk of standing up for Gordon Brown. I think he did well on this. All sucessive governments have ignored the plight of the Gurkhas including Thatcher and Blair. Yes GB was not interested at first but he was following in the footsteps of all the previous governments. How is it that he creates a backlash of disgust over the Gurkhas when previous governments had ignored them and the public were quite silent?
Gordon Brown changed his mind and did the right thing in the end.The Gurkhas have been waiting years for a result like this that's why they were magnanimous in victory toward Mr Brown yesterday.

Gordon Brown would do ANYTHING at the moment that he thought would raise his popular appeal. Its nothing to do with the Gurkhas its El Gordo trying to raise his popularity.
