but aren't all grown up ladies of a marriageable age, el loro?
But in Ancient Rome, as soon as a girl matured, she would be regarded as marriageable, and if she hadn't married within a comparatively short time, eligible men would have moved on to younger women. So the emphasis implied in nubile is that the woman was young and also physically attractive.
El Loro

We pets know best. Water in dishes in the house is last resort only. It tastes and smells like the water when my yuman and I have abaf. Les the vet says it has kemi kals in it. She doesn’t put them in but someone does. Rain water left standing to mature for a while in old buckets and plant pots tastes great. Fresh rain water in puddles is the best. That is why we pets have flat noses so we can really get into the puddle for a drink. It doesn’t seem fair on those poor yumans with their long pointy noses that get in the way if they try to drink out of puddles.

i haven't seen nermal or mr tom for about a week machel.
nermal has grown a bit but he's still not the size a young cat of his age should be in my opinion.
i think he wants to stop lickle because then he gets away with naughty silly things because people think he's just a baby.
if he was a big grown up looking cat like me or mr tom or jasper he would have to be a lot more sensible.
nermal is a peter pan cat who doesn't want to grow up.
thank you for the prawns and cream machel.
i bet nermal and mr tom will magically appear out of nowhere this afternoon now that prawns have arrived.
they can somehow sniff them out from miles away.
it's marvellous - i don't see a whisker of them for a week but the minute i get some nice fish they always turn up to "help" me eat it.

good afternoon tlc and crew it's very quiet in here, does that mean the gang are up to something or that they have already "done it" and are in hiding????
The gang have been busy out campaigning on behalf of the Pussy Cat Party. I believe their key policy is free cat food for all, and a tax on owners of big noisy dogs (and squawking parrots). It's just as well I don't have an owner.I am not a number, I am a free parrot.

it's nice to see so many of my friends dropping in.
 i really missed marguerita - i'm glad she's back.
and machel has brought some loverly fish again.
mr tom and nermal never turned up to help me eat last week's fish, so praps i'll get this lot all to myself too.
unless el loro would like a taste?
do parrots like fish el loro?
i thought they might, because they live on ships out at sea on pirates' shoulders don't they? so they must get to eat a lot of fish.

aunty pet and the big man have been arguing a lot lately about which party to vote for.
i thought parties were things you went to and had lots to eat and drink and had fun - like a burf day party or a kriss muss party.
i didn't think you had to vote for which one you liked.
leroy says that people have to go to a speshul place and write on a bit of paper which party they like the best and put the bit of paper in a box and then somebody adds up all the bits of paper and the party that gets the most votes wins and they have that same party for years and years.
fancy having a kriss muss party every day for years and years !

i think the big man and aunty pet want different parties.
aunty pet says there's no way she's going to vote for the story party (whatever that is!) because if that one wins they'll let people chase little foxes again and kill them.
sounds a funny sort of party to me where you just chase foxes instead of playing games.

when i go out after dark i sometimes meet a fox who lives round here.
he's quite nice and friendly and sometimes we have a little game of chase.
he lets me chase him but i don't want to catch him.
It's just for fun.
when he stops i stop as well.
i wouldn't want to kill him.

i'm with aunty pet on that one.
a party for killing foxes sounds awful.

to be fair the big man doesn't want a chasing and killing foxes party either, but he says some other things at the party are more important - i suppose he means fancy dress and jelly and ice-cream.
aunty pet says nothing is more important than stopping cruelty to animals.

when she says things like that i feel very safe.

Lemon, perhaps?
I have no problem with lemon, just lemon sole. I think there must be an enzyme released whilst the sole is being digested as the effect happens about 3 hours after eating. Obviously I have only eaten lemon sole twice with a long gap between times, but the effect happened both times. Although I have to be careful with a few other foods, it is only lemon sole where this occurs. And no, I haven't tried other types of sole; that would be risky.

Les the vet said she used to have a parrot. She called it a firkin grey because it was grey with a red tail. It was a special firkin grey because it had red eyes which made it a King Bird. She said it was a cannon ball because it used to eat lots of chicken. She would give it a chicken leg and it would carefully pick the meat off the bone and then crunch through the bone and eat it all. I don’t know what the chicken was doing whilst this was going on. Les the vet didn’t say. It also used to eat a lot of chillies. It used to eat fingers also. Les the vet said men

would want to put their fingers in the cage and she would warn them but they would ignore her. Then the firkin grey would slice a piece of finger off with a bit of bone and the men would make a lot of noise. Les the vet enjoyed that and so did the parrot.Do you eat fingers El Loro?

Fish fingers! I love fish fingers. I often wonder what the rest of the fish would taste like. Perhaps Machel would know. She seems to be the fish lady. My yuman is very clever. She chops the fingers off the fish all by herself (although I have never seen her do it) and stores them in boxes in the freezer. She is a bit naughty though. When she cooks a whole load for me she eats most of them herself. That is not fair.

Strictly in the interests of science, today for the first time I ate a seafood risotto which, bedsides prawns which I've eaten frequently, also included scallops and squid which I've never had before. It will be interesting to see how a parrot's digestion copes with these, so far so good. The scallops were quite tasty, but the squid seemed to me to be rather tasteless and the texture was as it looked - somewhat rubbery.
