I love Alison weir, i am a tudor obsessive and 90% of the books i read are henry v111 related, have recently read The infamous Lady Rochford by Julia Fox, Angelica you must read it, its fab Nod

Have either of you read Norah Lofts on the Tudor period? I am reading The King's Pleasure now and am then going to go on to The Concubine about Anne Boleyn. She's a good author and really captures the period. For instance in The King's Pleasure she goes right back to the birth of Katherine Wave

OOh Ta muchley am just popping over to amazon to have a look Valentine

Did you like the House trilogy? And Pargeters and the one about the Roman soldier who was crippled and couldn't go back with his legion so started a tavern called The One Bull because his religion worshipped bulls? Can't think what it was called but she's about the only author that I can read over and over again. My daughter is also a keen fan of hers.

Good luck! And maybe go on to her other books as well, many written around the Tudor era, some before, some after.

You could also try Philippa Gregory...she plays with the facts, but does it very well Thumbs Up

The reason that I read Jean Plaidy before Norah Lofts is because I feel Norah Lofts does such great research that I am 'getting it from the horse's mouth' so to speak. It is a fascinating time and I did feel that Jean Plaidy's Henry was fairly spot on, little piggy eyes, prim little mouth and able to believe the truth as he wanted to when it suited him to do so. I shall see what Norah Lofts' version of him is like.

(I recall I used to talk to someone on the BB forums about discworld and the characters, was a long time ago Nod But can't remember who it was, if you're still around and recognise yourself in this sentence, sorry Big Grin )

Oh the Colour of Magic I loved that book. I was so reluctant to read them until I was talked into them, silly nonsense I thought, but I just loved that book.

Interesting, what's that group called please?

I think there are four groups....I'd have to go to FB to check the names (lol), but if you search Anne Boleyn, or Henry V111 you'll get straight there.

Yes Teddy. The same person, but while Plaidy deals with historical personages, Holt doesn't, but places the stories in an historical context Nod

I've always wondered..thanks for clearing that up.
