Well, from a previous thing they sais they'll be chucked out again once they are 18, so if yhey take 14 to 17 year olds then it'll be sooner, rather than later, when they can get shot of them again......and it'll cost less.

Cynical.......who. me?

I'm sure I heard today that they would be supported until 25 ....but I may have misheard

You may well, be right. The cost part remains the same though. 10 years support will cost less than 15 to 20 years!

True .....although I find it worrying that they are not children .....and all males ....I just hope they are properly vetted.

One of the first ones was a female. I think this  bunch were claimed by family members already here. A total of 300 will arrive. Google is your friend!

Unfortunately some of the points you are raising are straight off the BF and UKIP sites. I'm saddened.

If you want something to worry about then a lot of ISIS members are about to be scattered throughout Europe. You are going to need indigenous Muslims to shop them like they did in Germany.

My understanding was that they were to be children ...not young adults .... But are we no longer even allowed to express any concern GJ . And I certainly don't subscribe to either UKIP or the BNP ! .

What's troubling me is the info from the camp that the truly needy little ones are being pushed aside by these hulking great 'children'.  I think as a nation  our hearts would go out to the littlies who have been through hell and back through no fault of their own.  Anyway just my opinion.

My sentiments exactly Squiggle ....without finite resources we should be helping the most vulnerable first and foremost .

Baz

It appears that the bloke in the Torygraph was a random gadjie photographed in Calais and the guy in The Scum is a Home Office interpreter.

ION did anyone notice that Kelvin MacKenzie got away with his xenophobic remarks about the newsreader in a hijab. No-one publicised our complaints about the Harold Shipman case. The newsreader in that case was dressed like a Doctor.

with respect joe-i think thats a bit unfair-i certainly dont read or listen to anything those people spout...however, just by looking at these children tells me theyre not children & the point i was making was are the government abandoning little kids to bring in ones of working or nearly working age so that looking after them is a lot cheaper

Not an issue! I had no intent to offend anyone on here. I know I have awkward English skills. I had however spent a day in the other place arguing with some quite unpleasant people and probably had a bit of carry over. I may also have offended Baz for which I also apologise.

as long as we're all fine...thats great

No problem GJ ....I know it's something that polarises opinions

We have been emotionally bullied for months from the media about little children in the camp, no parents and scared, now you'd have to be heartless to ignore that...but I just knew it was a lie, when we finally get them they are clearly unaccompanied blokes of fighting age, and not little defenceless kids that we were conned over.

The first group of unaccompanied children without family ties to the UK has arrived in Britain from the migrant camp in Calais.

They came under the "Dubs amendment" rules which allow particularly vulnerable children - such as girls and those under 13 - refuge in the UK.

Did ANYONE really expect the authorities to bring them all across at the same time, en mass?

Firstly , on the subject of refugees, should  we not be concentrating our resources on saving/helping  the thousands of women and children living in appalling fear and danger in ( or on the borders of) the various conflicts , rather than those who could afford to pay the people traffickers and are now living in relative safety in France , or other European countries ?

Secondly,  we are lucky enough to live in a country that supposedly upholds the right of  everyone  to free speech , so isn't failing to respect  the right of others to have an opinion different to our own not a dangerous thing ? Moreover, history has shown us that stifling people's  concerns ....legitimate or not ..... tends to be totally  counterproductive  and was probably,   at least in part,  why the referendum became such a protest vote....or the reason that Momentum has apparently gained so many supporters .

Well said Baz, an honest, courageous, well phrased and much needed post.  Debate is always a good thing and I hate to see it stifled by political correctness.

Amen to that Squiggle IMO the mere fact that people are not allowed to express ANY concerns about immigration without being labelled racist is of itself very dangerous ....cos  it doesn't make those concerns go away , it  simply drives them underground and allows them to fester

Blimey!!

I think we all know that xenophobes exist throughout the Internet but not perhaps here!

It is as though the Brexit nonsense opened the box emboldening various weirdo opinions, the type of opinions which I know NO-ONE on here agrees with!

However may I just point out that we are helping women and children on the borders.

Political Correctness is a right wing construct to excuse those who are dissatisfied with the concept of treating everyone equally, fairly and with dignity.

Lastly! What does Momentum have to do with the price of fish? Neither you nor I know anyone in Momentum and I am now also able to reveal that neither do Gary Lineker nor Rufus Hound.

I wasn't suggesting that Momentum had anything to do with the price of fish GJ  .....I was pointing out that it was born out of the Right/Conserative /PLP apparently  ignoring people's concerns ..... and how do you know I don't know anyone in it

I'd much rather help those still in Syria, not those who were already safe in France and refused point blank to live there, or the 5 other countries they passed through in order to come here...no one ever explains why this country is the "go-to" place for the Calais migrants.

And the leftist "social justice warriors" just love to trot out the age old and much out of date "xenophobes" line to shut down anyone who disagrees with them.

Can't we just have a debate without the name calling...please?

Firstly, I never suggested that people can't have free speech, secondly why I pointed out Vids post was his reference to clearly blokes of fighting age. My first thought for these people is what the hell mess have we created for them to be fleeing their countries and I can only feel compassion for them. Thirdly I am a member of Momentum and if anyone would like to know the true facts about Momentum I will gladly tell them.

Lastly we are far from their country of choice..now I'll bow out of this thread.

We have to look out for our safety, just look at whats going on in Belgium, France and Germany (thanks Mrs Merkel)...you say "we" made a mess of their country, not true, that was Assad, and the "peace loving rebels" ...and the British people (who are the ones that will have to live along side the Migrants) opposed all the recent wars.
