'iron Bru' or 'Iron Brew' (shock horror!)   is the rip off name - it's not made from girders..

ps... was just joking Sweet... it's a big thing up here  - fake 'Iron' Brew... cheap imitation that's never as 'good' as the real thing!

Apart from being a sign of copycats, the "brew" spelling can cause confusion as people often think it is actually brewed (sort-of the reason why Barr changed the spelling in the first place.) I knew an Englishman who came into contact with Irn Bru in a rather oblique way, and mistakenly thought it was a non-alcoholic beer! (Even more amusing considering its reputation as a hangover cure..)

 

The real real thing remains one of only two soft drinks that outsell Coca Cola in their native markets (the other, apparently, is Peru's Inca Cola...)
