my lily livered southern shandy drinkin kids have never sledged down steep hills, using old polythene bags
Awww... you've just reminded me of one of the best days at school I ever had! (my own school days as a pupil that is).

We went out in a PE lesson to a nearby field and did just that. I can't imagine schools being allowed to do that sort of thing in these crazy health and safety obsessed days!

We're crap at the snow thing these days.

It's also a reminder of how schools didn't used to shut at the first sign of snow...... that was a country school, kids bused there from miles around. These days that's always the excuse to shut the school..... the buses can't get through.

The only time our school shut was if the central heating froze up!  Otherwise you were expected to walk through it to school.

And the sledging... god... I shudder when I look back on how dangerous we were...

There was a mental hill about two miles from our street.... off we;d trek in a morning... 30 or 40 of us...  with our polythene bags....  the hill had bumps down it... so you'd fly into the air.   At the bottom it flattened out.. but right at the very very end was a stream.... most people didn't even get close to it... but every now and then someone ended up in the stream... and would have to walk 2 miles home, literally freezing

oh feck... that'll teach me for sniggering....   karma has booted me ....

we are getting short powercuts, every few mins or so... I was quite relaxed about it when I thought I had a fully charged laptop battery... til I realised the router was a plug in job!

As soon as the power came back on I plugged my phone in to make sure its fully charged.. hubby said "good idea, in case we need to call anyone"... me - "no, I can get on facebook on my phone!"

We had a huge power cut at work the other day. Substation blew out. Waited 90 minutes then they sent us all home. Just as I was getting out the gate the lights came back on. I turned around to go back in but the guardstopped us and said he had instructions not to let anyone else in. After telling him I had just walked out, he shrugged and just said Orders is orders... Remember the jobsworth cap anyone??
