When we used to go Van, we could fly into either Almeria or Alicante airports and picked up a car at whichever. Almeria was the handiest but Alicante used to have more flights at the time. When we go to Spain these days we usually go North, nearer to Valencia...away from all the English tourists(lol). I drove through Benidorm once...EEeeeeeeeeek!

I fly to and from San Javier, which is 15 mins away. And I know what you mean about the English tourists... I'm close enough that I can go and look at the wildlife but far enough away that they'll never find me. LOL.. I live in a complex of 24 houses in the middle of town and I'm the only English, but there are quiet a few spread around town. (English that is). But it's all people who live here and for the most part integrate with the Spanish.

St Javier wasn't open when we were there, so it was one or the other of those two airports. It sounds really nice where you are Van, just the way I like it...I would hate to be in one of those ex pat Ghettoes like La Marina...just like being on a British housing estate

My Sister stayed in one when they first moved here and had to rent while they were reforming their house... We called it Camp Arsehole... I called it Stalag 19..

We were pootling around near Elche and the OH said let's have a look and a coffee....OMG they were having card-making classes and we couldn't disappear quick enough Some of the houses were nice....but....

Miss Kaytee was homesick at first, but she settled down once she was used to being away from all her home comforts...like the cooking and washing fairy

It isn't even Uni KT, its sixth form. She got a full boarding scholarship to a private boys school (a good one!), sponsored by Toshiba! (maths & Physics). She's only 16!!

On the plus side, the 'pastoral' care there is excellent.... there are only 40 girls in the whole sixth form (its boys only, but at 6th form its co-ed). So they have a dorm matron and stuff.

She wanted the scholarship so badly... and competition was fierce (There was only the one place).... so the whole time she was sitting the exams and attending interviews I was just hoping she got it.

Then she did, and I was overjoyed for her. But now September is getting closer and closer....

I know I'll adjust... but I will miss her soooo much. She's my bessie mate!

I know! I am incredibly proud of her, and excited for her.

I just know I'll miss her, and I am worried she'll get homesick.

She has convinced herself its Hogwarts though!

Don't know how you can let her go at 16 Ditty but well done her.
