I think the main idea of them is the sole. Note how both on the espadrilles are made of the same stuff.

I was staying at a friends house when it happened.... she was getting married and I was a bridesmaid. The next day I had to limp around every bridal shop in the city to try on dresses. 
I'll never forget that day
