When I went it was just me and my son. You feel really safe even after dark as long as you stick to main areas. There's loads of people everywhere.

One night though we were on the subway on the way back to the hotel and we stayed on too long. We ended up going under the river into Brooklyn.... it was after midnight and we got off at a deserted stop and had to come up into the street to cross the road and go back to the opposite subway station. You should have seen me panic.
