I really don't think that David is as daft as he portrays himself to be.
He believes himself to have had hard life, and that was evident when last week he and Lisa were discussing Marcus, when Lisa had said that Marcus had, had a hard life. David got aireated and said so had he. I would hope if one person had had a bad deal, in life. They could empathise with someone who had, had a similar rough deal, and not compete.
To me that does not gel with the image he is trying to give out.
Yes you could have a point there, or maybe he just feels comfortable with his own kind, so to speak. He does have a bit of a chip on his shoulder tho, that he should get sorted
