didn't like clearing them and setting them though...that was my job because I was first in after school and had to clean and set it before my parents got in from work 

Yes, the clearing out and setting was a pain. I’ve got a tiny scar with coal dust in it, on one of my index fingers - cut it when I was clearing out the fire and was too wimpy to scrub it out

Dad did that for us in the orning...he was always up first. I can remember us buying little bundles of sticks at the corner shop to put on the fire to make it start

Yes. I remember my nana’s neighbour’s chimney going on fire.

Yep chimney sweep had to be brought in every so often

luckily they always managed to put it out but the thought of the fire brigade scared me
