Puts me in the mind of the film....The Boy In The Striped Pyjamas

read the book very distressing

The film's even worse where you can see what is happening

didn't want to see it sprooty after the book

I made a point of it after a tutor I worked with mentioned it to me

Too many Germans in the family I suppose

yep, divided loyalties ...although Hitler was a nutter and it should have been an easy choice

Definitely....he was but a clever one, he made the sons of aristocratic families join the SS, which kept them in Germany toeing the line

I’m not sure about that ....words are very powerful ....and imagination even more so ...

I actually had to read Mein Kampf at uni....and watch The Triumph of The Will about the Nuremberg rally

I’ve never read it

nor me

Count me in on that too

You're missing nothing....it's full of contradictions and ramblings, but he did think that England would be his natural ally

wow interesting

For one thing, the Royal Family were German with many German relatives and unlike most of Europe he considered us as Anglo Saxons

Edward the abdicator was (allegedly) not anti Hitler

No he wasn't and Hitler said he would put him on the throne when he conquered England

yes he was  a massive supporter  - I sometimes think there are  still sympathisers amongst some royals

Wasn’t Princess Michael of Kent’s dad in the SS?  Edit: just realised that’s who you meant
