Fast Car magazine were doing a piece on Oselli back in the early 90s. Project to vamp up a bulk standard 2.0 lite Montego, from top to tail.

Suspension, wheels, brakes, exhaust, engine, bodywork, garish logos...the full Monty. Anyways; once the project was done with, the car was then 'given' to the editor. Unsuprisingly he already owned a few very high spec cars, and so advertised this beast in his own magazine.

I was the cash endowed (at the time) numpty who bought it for 5 grand. It sounded like Concorde with whooping cough, and no corner for love nor money would cause discernible roll or lose you traction..despite no 4 wheel drive.

Being a 'child-man' at the time, I used to garner great joy from watching GTIs disappear in my rear view mirror after traffic light races. The only mid range motor at the time to outclass it was the Cosworth..but even then only at top speed.

Problem though. It was a project car. Things went wrong..quickly. No parts could be had to restore the thing, and it ended up scrap in the end.

Might have laughed at wannabee GTI boy racers in the short term; but ultimately the word 'Golf' as both a car and anagram was something you could later 'Flog' Frowner
