1228: Spectator editor Fraser Nelson tweets: SNP negotiating team heading to London. Hope they have got some theatre tickets and dinner plans: Tories are not that desperate.
1240: "Several Downing St sources have denied reports that there will be a cabinet meeting today. Gordon Brown will be in Downing Street from 'between 2pm and 3pm' and is likely to see 'a number of ministers'," says the BBC's Iain Watson. "They also say the cabinet is united in keeping Gordon Brown in place until the shape of a new government becomes apparent."

reading that back I can see your confusion - sorry - it was in the actual update - a quote from Fraser Nelson's tweet - not my words
I like the fact that parties are talking to each other in this fashion.
I dislike the bland and dismissive way some politicians discount any form of PR. They don't like PR because they may lose their own power. As part of their case they point to places where PR has not been a great success.
BUT I will not have it that grown-up people, with a certain amount of intellect cannot come up with a workeable political system.
Because it has "always been this way" does not mean it should remain that way.
I firmly believe it can be done. Many will find any change agonizing.
But I am utterly convinced that it is not beyong the wit of man to produce a new and fairer system.

Brisket... I am with you all the way on everything you said in your post!.Problem is... the grown up people bit.... this is the problem... alot of them are not particularly grown up. Also... they are blinkered and happily stuck in a deep rooted culture where they are the educated people and we are the unwashed masses.
How very dare we tell them we want it done differently... we just don't understand.. blah de blah!
Its arrogance.... and I desperately hope that what comes out of this is those people are brought back down to earth with a bang... and any of them that cannot accept that they are PUBLIC servants go and do something else.
Chances are this will not happen though.
I had a row with a cheif exec of an NHS PCT once... as he stood there telling me it was HIS Trust... I reminded him it was not his... it was the peoples and he was caretaker of it on their behalf... he looked at me as though I were mad!
I can never get beyond the notion that all politicians are self-serving rather than 'public-serving'
As the saying more or less goes... Those who seek power are those least suited to do so

I know what you mean.... even if they start off "a man with a mission"... to climb up to a position to be able to do something they have to spend years doing the canvassing & all that... during which time they become immersed in the culture & lose touch with the cause.
Politics - Too many causes, too many wants, to many can't haves, too many cultures, too many to please, too many mistakes to make, too many denials, too many expenses , too many voters who don't know what they want, too many other countries, to many lost chances.
Not enough time.

My mum works very hard as an elected local politician and has done so for many years that's why she has been re-elected so often. I am very proud of her.
With all things Low I am sure there are exceptions but I still feel MPs are not, on the whole, the altruistic souls they all claim to be. Maybe I am just a cynic

Afternoon all and HIZX!
Here is a little homework for the thread. Interesting if is indeed the 'Inner Thoughts of Hague'! Clegg is really in for a bumpy ride with the Tories if this coalition actually happens...

Hague increased his majority. If he ever loses constituency I will show my bottom in Binnses window.
You've got to admit, if it all wasn't so serious, that all this two-ing and fro-ing makes fascinating viewing

You can rely on me Matisse Baz! if I'd tried to imagine Baz let loose in a room full of MPs 2 weeks ago.. I would have bet money there would have been bloodshed.
Now I am beginning to realise that I'd be more likely to find candlelight, roses & Barry White songs
