I did NOT vote Lib Dem (tactical vote) to see the Tories in power, if I had WANTED the Tories in I would have VOTED for them,
I want to see them try to run the country as a minority government at least that way we will get another election sooner rather than later, bloody sell out Lib Dems, IF they do a "deal" with the filth I will NEVER put my X next them again,

Hiya OHGSee that's the risk with all of this bloody tactical voting that's been going on grrrr....it's not a done deal yet though, surely the Lib Dems have more in common with Labour than the Tories?....See Cameron is now offering some cabinet seats to Clegg, ha ha, he must be getting desperate

I didn't vote LD tactically...   I voted LD as my first choice.

I see all this as a bit Ying & Yang... kinda....

A little bit of Ying in Yang, & a  little bit of Yang in Ying.

Well.... its now down to NC to ensure that if he goes with Ying... there is a bit of Yang in it... or if he goes with Yang... theres a bit of Ying in it.

As I think the current Labour line up needs sorting out...    I am leaning towards a Cons Lib alliance... but there sure as hell needs to be at tangible lib dem flavour to it.

They're a lot closer than the Tories though, and between them they have 52% of the vote. Interesting that that gives them, between them, only 10 seats more than the Tories with 36.1% of the vote....As I said, I find the whole thing q fascinating
They would be just about neck and neck if the Conservatives formed another alliance, and anyway Labour and Lib Dem would not be able to push through any major legislation without reaching that magic number.

Thats what I saw earlier... they stopped the interview she was doing.

Kay Burley was heckled by a political activist while presenting live on Sky News this afternoon.

The news anchor is fronting continuous coverage of the general election fallout on location in Westminster, where she has become the target of an angry viewer.

The man disrupted Burley's live links with repeated chants of: "Sack Kay Burley. Watch the BBC. Sky News is shit."

Burley initally responded to the heckling with a smile, telling viewers: "Democracy in action right behind me."

The protestor progressively became more enraged, however, and began shouting anti-Murdoch sentiments. "They don't like The Sun, they don't like us, they don't like Rupert," Burley observed.

Burley was then forced to abandon an interview and cut to a commercial break.

I think PR is the way forward and David Cameron should offer the LIb Dems a referendum. However, if the LD decide to team up with Labour, who not only got fewer seat than the Conservatives, but also 2 million less votes, then what does that say about them? To me it says that they are  no different to the other two parties

Bugger - I missed it. Been watching for most of the day but had to stop and give the house a bit of a clean(got visitors coming). I'd pay good money to see Burley get heckled ....nasty woman that she is.

Don't tell me you don't know GJ?
I don't! The only explanation given on here was that MPs who had small majorities might be replaced. Thus the Tory MP who won in my constituency with a majority of 300 might be replaced by a LiB Dem? It makes no sense to me, if they want power they need to appeal to the public and win a few seats.

I really can't see it happening Baz.
I hope not Ducky..... but I think it depends on whether they are willing to sell out on the actual *principle* of  PR, for  the  chance to obtain PR. Of course, if it is put to the country, they may not even get their wishes.... and then there would have to be a decision made on whether is should be a single transferable vote system or AV. etc etc....

I understand what you mean.... and I agree....... but I feel the current system does need looking at.  However, it does make me laugh when I hear people saying on TV linking PR with cleaner politics.... cos I  can't see nay link there at all

PR....... in a nutshell.

You give each party a number in order of preference. They only count the first preferences first. If someone gets a majority of the votes, they are automatically elected. They then count the second preferences of all the people who voted for any of the other candidates as their first preference ....PLUS all those that DID vote for the elected as first preference but that took that candidate over and above a majority (as a %).  The candidate that gets the majority of those votes is then also elected.......and they go to the third preference...and on it goes until all seats are filled in that constituency.

At any point if no one gets a majority the next preference is then taken into account until someone does.

Simple innit.

I think it would lead to more negotiation rather than point scoring. Well that's the theory anyway. Our lot have behaved like kids in a playground for so long it's hard to see them growing up anytime soon though.

I THINK... that is the Alternate Vote PR... but I am not totally sure
That's the single transferable vote ...and it needs multi-seat constituencies to work. The AV is done just the same but if someone gets a majority (more than 50%) of the vote on first preferences then they and they alone are elected...... if not it follows the STV method until ONE PERSON does have a majority. It means it would be basically the same as now for those places with a large majority..... but would probably change the outcome in closer votes.

I've been studying
