Crunchy:
I bet you could get a good sense of what you've missed by reading these episode recaps. (Note that they are on the US schedule, which is up to episode 15.)

I can't be sure with regards tonight's episodes, but at the beginning of the series the makers promised that they wouldn't go down the "Lost" route, with mysteries not being resolved for a whole series (if at all). Rather, the idea is for most current plot-lines to be resolved after a few weeks and replaced by new ones. Can't guarantee that will always happen in practise, though. If you're interested in the show, the best advice would be to suck-it and see...

"The Event" of the title ocurred in (I think) 1944. From memory, I don't think it's ever been shown in a "complete" form. It has however been frequently referred-to in flashback. There are a lot of flashbacks in "The Event"...Originally Posted by Crunchy Nuts:

Cos I'm thinking of Flashforward and how if you missed the actual flashforward in the first ep then there wasn't much point in watching it.
It is had to say definitely. Something happened early on that may have been it, but something else is starting to happen that equally be 'IT'. Then again, IT may have happened at a time before the current events. Sounds good. Think I may try and get hold of the first lot of episodes on the internet somewhere and Sky+ the current lot on C4.
Just a wee reminder that the next episode is on tonight around 11pm.
I'm a sucker for these sci-fi thinggys. I've got the whole of series 1 of V to watch, watched all the Supernatural series, just finished Ashes to Ashes, now I find out about The Event and Fringe I'll be sorted for catch up material till about 2025 I still have 24 to watch too, never seen Lost either, are they worth it?
Not a 24 fan (although my husband watched all of them), but I LOVED Lost. Definitely worth it!
Did you ever see Flash Forward? It didn't last long, but I liked it.

I watched quite a lot of Flash Forward but for some reason never got to the end. I liked it a lot though. I'll definitely check out Lost, thanks Lori

When your head starts spinning, remember me. I'm not sure I like the sound of that Speaking of Lost, I once watched a series called The Lost Room, it was fantastic. If anyone's into sci-fi it really is a must-see.
I bought the complete collection of Lost. Cost me best part of ÂĢ100 but it's such a great TV show that it's well worth watching right through again.
