What do ya think? Should i risk it for a biscuit? I'm fancying one of my unimpressive, burnt, omelettes.

I'm using ones dated 21st April and I'm still alive.
of course, I could be lying and trying to kill you off....
Yeah, they should be fine.
The Food Standards Agency said a few months ago that eggs can still be eaten up to 2 days after their advertised "best by date" as long as both white and yolk are solid.

So you should be OK.

Solid? Like a creme egg?

not surprised Barry.
no idea I only use egg replacer but I would have said they were OK
What is this egg replacer you speak of Pigeon?

As if... crack them open, if they look ok and they smell ok.. they'll be ok.

you see, this is where I'm useless. Sure I can probably smell if something is off, but visually it all looks the same to me
I'll give it a go. If it goes wrong I've always got some bacon, its only a month out of date so that should be okay.
seriously - if they're best before today, they'll be fine. They don't have a watch, so they don't know to go 'off' at the stroke of midnight.

I use ENER-G egg replacer - it's a powder that you mix with water and it replaces egg - I use it as I'm allergic to eggs one box is equivalent to 100 eggs roughly but it keeps for ages if you keep it in an airtight container

o test if an egg is off or not put it into a bowl of water - if it floats it's off (it has air in it) if it sinks or stays at the bottom of the bowl it's OK to eat.
Okay, i shall try all those suggestions.
Fanks everyone
I'm off on another cooking adventure.....
hmm, it didn't go so well *orders take out*
have one of those bananas.. they look fresh enough.

Do you wanna talk us through that? How can an 'omlette' end up looking like that?

At least it was solid, but I didn't mean that solid

Okay, so it all started off fine. I did the egg in water test and they both didn't float so I was good to go.
Cracked the eggs, dash of milk and pepper and hand whisked. I then turned on the hob, not realising that the whisk was too big for the bowl so it tipped out taking some of the mixture with it. Luckily it also took a chunk of egg shell, that I had missed noticing in the mixture, as well.
Anyway, i bunged what I had left of the mixture into the pan and let it cook. I used a spatula to scrap the edges so it didn't stick (see, i was being all proper and stuff).
The I attempted to flip it....it folded over on itself, so i tried to unfold it...which didn't work. I then proceeded to get very angry with it and that image was the final result.
It's a deconstructed omlette.
Very posh.
I pull in the sides all round with the spatula during cooking so the liquid keeps going out to the edges then when it's almost done I pop it under the grill ...........i don't attempt to flip! Saying that - I haven't made an omlette in years.

I did the liquid thing too.
AAARRRGHH! I should've used the grill!!!

What in the name of Gordon Ramsay did you do there??????
cancel the take away - have this one on me.
My place is in need of a new chef....
I regularly use eggs that are up to 4 weeks out of date, as long as it's less than 70 degrees F outside. Otherwise, they are more likely to be rank.

I thought it was just me...
I use eggs a few days out of date but there have been times that I've made eggs then realised they are weeks out of date. But I haven't died yet so it's all good.
Oh and I do what Soozy does....pop it under the grill and it comes out great.
I never even check the dates on them.
Mind you, they never last long in this house.

Soozy, that's how I do it too. It's lovely and light that way.
Rawky, remove it from the grill just as it starts browning.
I never eat food which is out of date. I have food paranoia

My daughters the same, even crisps she won't eat if they are 1 day out of date

Rawky, you should have just left it folded over on itself it's how they're supposed to be
I've eaten eggs almost two weeks past their date and older without noting that they had turned.

Thing is though PC, what did we do before they started shoving dates on everything?
We looked at it and smelled it (and did the floatation test if it was an egg), if the result of those examinations were 'seems ok' then we ate it. We're all still here to tell the tale.
People set too much store on these dates and some don't properly understand the difference between 'Best Before' and 'Use by'
In fact so much reliance is put on these dates that it has led to illness and food poisoning in some quarters because 'the food wasn't out of date' and the 'iffy' appearance was overlooked.
