The Duchess of York has been exposed by the News of the World as taking ÂĢ40,000 cash as down payment towards supposedly getting a business man a lucrative contract through Prince Andrew. The News of the World makes it clear that Prince Andrew had no knowledge or involvement with this - the Duchess alone acted.

This is a link to the News of the World article which shows the video clip of the duchess arranging this and accepting the cash.

The Palace will not be making any public comment on this.

Any respect or sympathy that anyone might have had for the Duchess has been destroyed by this revelation.

hahaha!

I almost (I said almost) like Fergie....  for the toe sucking & stuff.  Cos I know that if I had married a Prince I would probably have ended up getting caught doing something as equally cringey!

My sympathy stopped when she started lording it around the U.S. as a british princess... almost becoming a parody of someone from britian... as if we needed more PR that says we are all basically either bowler hats and jaunty side kicks or nannies from the Victorian era!

Whatever anyone thinks of Murdoch and his papers, he does hire some cracking journalists. Mazher Mahmood is well respected by his peers for his old school 'scoop' expositions of people in the public eye....my father is a retired journalist and he told me that "the journos that don't like Mahmood want to be him"
I'm sure the Duchess of York has been getting away with stunts like this for ages....I bet she wasn't devastated and regretful when she was cashing her cheques...Ching Ching

Well, I guess if anyone's life is in danger then it may be the most responsible thing to abandon investigations and let the Law take over. People in the public eye that don't fight back are probably the ones that have been caught bang to rights in the first place. I'll let you elaborate more Garage Joe, that's all I really know about it.

I've always liked Fergie the best out of all that lot. Disappointed she felt so desperate for money she took part in this. Is what newspapers are doing these days to discredit those they focus on with fake set ups and cameras called entrapment, I'm surprised it's legal but if it brings people and their activitires to light I suppose it's acceptable.

What has she done with the millions she got from parading herself in Lala land as the Duchess of York
I don't know if she made millions but her business has gone bust and she owes money which is why she obviously took part in this but she's paying it back. She sure has had a challenging life for one reason or another, I bet her daughters are mortified

I feel quite sorry for her. The divorce settlement was piffling ( ÂĢ15.000 ). With their children's grandmother as queen and a father with access to a lot of money, what exactly is she supposed to do? She's trying to keep up and, as per usual, the royal family have washed their hands of yet another daughter-in-law. Yes, she's accident prone and different from the rest of that shower, but that is why I quite like her.

Me too ...........she got herself into massive debt but managed to work and pay it off. She traded on her name and connections to do so but ........how else was she gonna get the money? I've always liked her ........have to say though I've not read this latest story - although I'll tale stories from NOTW with a pinch of salt. Why do they go out of their way to dig up crap on people? Is there not enough 'real' news?

Perhaps because there are quite a few out there behaving like crap. As for news, must have been a slow news week, but I can imagine that some would find it 'newsworthy' that someone not too far removed from the Constitutional Head of State is making clandestine deals and trading on her association. Just thinking out loud...

This is the text of the Duchess' statement recently issued:

"I very deeply regret the situation and the embarrassment caused.

'It is true that my financial situation is under stress however, that is no excuse for a serious lapse in judgment and I am very sorry that this has happened.

'The Duke has made a significant contribution to his business role over the last 10 years and has always acted with complete integrity.''
