X Factor supremo Simon Cowell has phoned the founders of the Facebook campaign to get RATM to Christmas number one to congratulate them on making the chart battle interesting again.

Over past week, Cowell branded the 'Killing In The Name' campaign “cynical” and “stupid” and even accused it of “bullying” X Factor winner Joe McElderry.

Seemingly in a change of heart, last night Cowell phoned Jon Morter, who started the group with his wife Tracy, to thank him.

Writing on Facebook this morning, Jon said: “Simon Cowell called and thanked us for making this the best chart battle in years.

“We've made his entire company work twice as hard apparently! For the record he was very sweet and we had a good chat about music and things.”

makes sense since RATM are signed to Sony BMG.

I understand the reasons behind this campaign (I miss the excitement of the christmas number one too), but it feels like a hollow victory to me. We still didn't get a choice....some random bloke, picks a random song to protest against the xfactor monopoly....  the random bloke gets publicity,  the song writers make money and all off the back of the money making scheme they are protesting about. ("some" of it is going to charity.... but how much is "some"?).

Who would truly have chosen this song as the christmas number one if they had a free choice.....

I haven't bought either single..... the xfactor song because it's boring, the RATM song because (although I've always liked it) of the integrity of the  campaign.

That word "some" killed it for me.

I heard it half an hour ago   Joe is a sweet boy and has a good talent, but it's about time Simon Cowell, the money grabbing tosser, was taken down a peg or two.  I am sick sick sick of X factor and pop idol number ones at Christmas, and it's time it came to an end.  Well done to everyone who bought the single (including me!)

So many bands and artists work tirelessly for many years to build up a fan base and work hard to secure a recording contract, and the Christmas number one is an accolade that will be normally be remembered for years to come, so to have the chance taken away by someone who has been 'famous' for about 12 weeks, is a travesty frankly.

It's about time it was stopped actually, and I am glad Simon Cowell has had the bloody nose he well deserves!  Arrogant, money grabbing twat that he is.  Maybe this is the time the mighty start falling.  Charvyl Cole is already starting to be disliked by many, owing to the fact that she is a talentless over rated show off, who thinks she is a mega star, and the same is happening with Simon,

It wouldn't be so bad if the X Factor singles were 'Christmassy,'  but they never are, and they are ALWAYS a shitty cover version of someone else;s hit!   I mean, when you hear A moment like this by Leona Lewis, or When you believe by Leon 'talentless' Jackson, do you think 'CHRISTMAS?!' (like when you hear the power of love by Frankie, or Stay another day by E17?)  Me neither!

HOORAY for Rage against the machine and EVERYONE who bought the single.  Does make me wonder why only 450,000 bought Joe's single though, when 5 million supposedly voted for him to win the X factor...
