he's a beauty, looks more like a wildcat, do you have any idea where they come from ?

Yes I think they are wild... from Pakistan, India, Sri Lanka regions.

here's another pic Big Grin

Here is the link that hubbys forum had to the pics... there are loads more (warning... there are a couple of the cat with a dead chicken... I suspect you cat owners are used to all that... but thought I should mention it).

Fishing Cat

The site is in russian or something, so I don't know why these people have one as a pet, but the cat seems very happy... and is very handsome.

I absolutely agree.. and if I could translate the text on the site I would know why they had this animal.... I did read around them, and it seems that they are not domestic at all.... for all I know it could well be part of some animal rescue etc.

But I do totally agree with you... I hate being at a zoo (even though they do conservation etc)... I hate seeing any animal unhappy.

So please don't thinking I am advocating keeping a wild animal as a pet... I wouldn't.

Of course not. Some countries have no legislation as regards the keeping of wild animals. This only encourages poachers etc to kill adult animals to get the cubs, babies etc,so sad. Frowner

I know it's due to us in the West really, the demand for palm sugar , that is an ingredient in loads of supermarket foods etc is fuelling the destruction of their habitat, forests are being chopped down for palm sugar plantations. The people are poor so it's not their fault they want to work and earn money on the plantations.Just the wildlife is being decimated. Wow! Loving all the gorgeous kitties (and well done jesse for loading pics!)

But Ditty, the fishing cat, oh my, that's an amazing animal! Can't imagine one of them under the duvet or on my knee on the sofa.

I suppose the pics of it in the bath with the fish were examples of whoever owned it trying to replicate what it would do in the wild, but it's sad to see such a creature kept captive in a house, eh?

Lots of nonsensical text in the posts though!

Thank you for that.... looks like they are getting stick for keeping him. And unfortunately looks like he is a pet, and they justify that because he was raised domestically.

I get the feel from one of the posts that she is almost advising on how to keep these cats (almost like a reptile owner would do).

I hope not!

I have had 5 Siamese cats but only one left now This ine is 17 half years old and diabetic Untouchable really until she was diagnosed two years ago and diabetes is a nightmare to deal with but she is now my best friend in spite of blood tests and injections

One hint for giving tablets
Crush the tablet on a piece of paper with the side of a knife until powder, put it in an egg cup and use a syringe to add a little luke warm water mix well and syringe up the mixture
Squirt into the puddys mouth and they have to swallow it - not spitting out of the side of the mouth etc Smiler

I hope not either, Ditty. Gosh, can you imagine if people found a way to keep them, maybe even breed them as domestic pets. Eeker

Puddy, I love Oriental breeds, especially Siamese. Do you have a pic of yours to post?

Mike, I just read your earlier post, 26 is an amazing age to reach, you must have been a wonderful servant to Lucy!

My Leo, another RIP
